Introducing the Absolute Hammer

I wonder what something like CFE BLK would do.

Had the exact same thought, mostly because I already have that powder. Might give it a shot. One thing worth mentioning, on the 4198 only, my gun was short cycling. Even on the highest charge, the bolt didn't lock back. I could open my gas block more, but I assume that would mean I'm getting close to "too fast"?

Thanks for the 16" barrel load data, hadn't seen that one yet.

CFE BLK will definitely make enough gas to cycle! That's why it works so well in the blackout

We still have blank spots in the absolute line too! Waiting on the 35 s. No rush though only deer hunting this year - gameking will work for now.

Well I gave the 109 AH a try in a 6.5 grendel today 20 inch barrel maxed out at around 2920 with several powders no accuracy at max backed off to about 2825-2850 .5 moa with H-4198 , 322 and benchmark all pretty much the same I think I will stay with the 99 HH in this one speed about the same just a ragged hole and kills very well

Finally got some time with the 178AH and my Rem 700 300WM. Details:
24" factory 1:10 twist
New Winchester brass
Fed 215M

Reloder 26
78.0: 3,078
78.5: 3,101
79.0: 3,126
79.5: 3,157
80.0: 3,167

H1000
79.0: 2,922
79.5: 2,958
80.0: 2,990
80.5: 3,003
81.0: 3,029 - light extractor mark on 1 case

ES, SD and accuracy were what I've come to expect from Hammer bullets. All three shot groups were under 3/4" at 100 yards. While not satisfied with speed from H1000, it shot lights out Largest group was .44 " and highest ES was 11.

Some more data for 109 AH in 6.5 Grendel 16" barrel. 4 shot groups. All had great SD/ES and decent groups. Probably use this for deer season, maybe try 99gr HH's for kicks later on.

H322
29.4Gr: 2617fps, SD 5, ES 11, Group .7 MOA
29.6Gr: 2634fps, SD 6, ES 13, Group .6 MOA
29.8Gr: 2662fps, SD 4, ES 8, Group .5 MOA

I wonder what a powder in the RL 23 or maybe H4350 range would do in the 300 win with the AH 178's. It might be at the point of diminishing returns as the powder capacity is getting up there though.

I've been researching powders to try when my next order of 178s gets here. RL 23 is on the short list along with RL 22, H4350, IMR 4350 and IMR 4381.

I was wondering the same thing. My 300 win is a full custom with a 26" Brux and shoots 215 Berger's at 3000 FPS. I thought 3200 would be easy to obtain with the 178 but maybe not. Didn't Steve get the 178 going faster than that with a 30-06?

Steve got to 3080 or so out of the 178 in 30-06. They did do the 300 RUM but not the 300 win (at least that they reported) They capped out at similar speeds (3400 ish if I recall) to the HHs in the RUM.

Is this a bolt gun? Did you hit pressure or run out of case space?
