Introducing the Absolute Hammer

Just finished another short shoot with 123 gr AH in a 6.5 Weatherby With Rel 26. Went from 70 up to 72 grains. Velocities ran from 3373 up to 3515. Think getting near the top end, but 3515 is pretty fast. Still shooting less than .5 MOA. On the other hand shot the 155 gr AH in a 7 mm STW with Rel 22. This shot slower than similar loads with 160 gr Sledge Hammers. I will note no stability problems in the 9 twist that I ran into in a 280 AI with 9 twist. Tune in next week for more. 7 STW did still have all three holes cutting.

I will... Antelope tomorrow next week Moose, following week Hunting With Heroes (taking 18 disabled vets antelope hunting on donated Wyoming tags) Then deer then elk then deer again.

This month is gonna be BUSY!!!!

BTW If any disabled vet (50% or more with a VA letter) is interested in a free WY antelope hunt let me know please.

I am not a veteran but just want to say that what you're doing for our disabled vets is FANTASTIC!

Thanks to all who serve,

I tried to simulate these new bullets in QuickLoad to see what it suggests. (Full disclosure, I am not a QL expert by any means, and it's totally possible I am missing something). I assumed that the increase in speed would be due to reduced engraving pressure of the bullet entering the rifling. QL suggests ~6500psi for a standard copper solid. So, I compared a simulation with 6500psi for the baseline, and a wild guess of 1000psi for the Absolute Hunter. No idea on the validity of that number, but I wanted to see what effect this magnitude of a change has on predicted muzzle velocity. Simulation is for a 6.5 PRC, limiting to 60k psi as that is more representative of bullet velocities I observe in real life.

Simulating "traditional HH" style bullet with 6500psi engraving pressure:

I'm seeing 50, maybe 60 fps advantage for the AH after optimizing for powder charge to the same peak pressure. Are there other reasons besides engraving pressure that would cause this bullet to achieve higher velocities? I don't see any setting for the amount of friction of the bullet after it's moving down the barrel. Would this even be a contributing factor, and if so, do any QL experts know if this setting is user adjustable? It doesn't appear to be. Any other thoughts?

I would like to thank you also I am a vet but my only disabilities are self induced or sits on top of my shoulders what you and others are doing for them is fabulous keep up the good work

To close this out for anyone else looking for 65SS data. I Loaded four more of R23. 62 would be compressed as best I can tell. Each of these gave a slight shiny ejector but no stiff bolt lift. I felt ever so slight resistance at 60.5 but that was the only one.

I'm going to check out the velocity node at 59 - 59.5 and somewhere between 60-60.5 just see how it deals with pressure longer term and accuracy.

60 - 3377 (was 3370 an hour ago)
60.5 - 3390
61 - 3427
61.5 - 3442
Thank you for that info on 6.5SS. I may have missed your OAL, but I'll wait til you find your final data.

nope!
