In-field Ballistics Programs

I don't have a smart phone, so I am looking at something else. So riddle me this, if I bought an IPOD touch, and then loaded something like a "Shooter" app or something of the like, can I use it in the field without having cell phone signal? This seems like probably the best way I am thinking. I have heard of some people using the Dell Axim but I have heard a complaint or two about it not being fast enough for them. I have done some searches on here, and the Smartphone seems to be the overwhelming favorite, as most people now days have one, but I am wondering about non-smartphone possibilities. Thanks

strelok seems to work on my phone with wifi off and on airplane mode.

I have used Shooter on an iTouch and it works just fine. The program doesn't require wi-fi or cell signal to operate. Some features (local weather input) require wi-fi or cell signal but you can manually enter temp, pressure, and wind which is more accurate than a generic input from the nearest weather station.

This is kinda what I am figuring. I have a Kestrel 2500 for weather conditions, and a good rangefinder. I am just looking for something to use other than a whole pile of printouts in my pack. Especially since I hunt in an extremely large range of temp and altitude conditions. Looks like I could pick up a 4th generation I pod touch on ebay for like $100 which seems like it could be a descent alternative.

Check out Ballistic AE. It's on my iPhone and works like a charm!
