Working up a load for a Rem 700 SPS with a 1/12 twist in 308 Win with 165/168 gr.

Has anyone tried IMR 8208 with 168gr TTSX in the 308 Win. ?

Yes I used IMR 8208 with my 308. I originally switched because varget was hard to find. Now I don't bother with varget as the 8208 is very accurate and works so well in extreme temperatures. I was not using the barnes bullet but the 168 sierra MK.

Just use Hodgdon's loading guide. They say the lowest load is 39 grains and max is 43 grains of IMR 8208. I am sure somewhere in there you can find an accurate load. As for seating depth, Barnes recommends you start .050" from lands. You can always manipulate the seating depth either way to fine tune if necessary.

Thanks AZ

I have always used IMR 4064/Varget/RL 15 in my 308 Win.

I use IMR 8208 in my AR with 77MK just would be nice to use just one powder in both.

I use it with 175gr Sierra and it works very well. I have shot it in 1000 yard matches and it performed excellent

I just worked up a load with 165gr Hornady Interlock BTSP with 43.4gr of 8208 XBR. Got 1/2 MOA group there and at 43.1gr. Going to try one more round and add a 43.6 node. Hornady shows a Max of 43.2 so start low and work up according to your rifle.

Average velocity was 2650 out of a factory Howa barreled action 20" 1-10 twist.

Thanks

I use 8208 with great results in my 5.56 with 77mk

I plan on giving it a try with 168 TSX in my 20" tactical 700........thanks.

I tried it in my 308. Good accuracy but wasn't the fastest powder I tried! Varget and imr 4064 were faster and just as accurate! I use imr 4064 because I can always get it, I get 1/2 moa accuracy at 2835fps with single digit es.

Yes IMR 4064 has been my go to powder for years in my 308 Win. But 8208 is so good in my 5.56 with 77 MK. I thought I would give it a try in my Rem 700 SPS 308 Win. My 1/12 twist I think I step up to the 150 TSX and try 8208.

8208 is a great powder for volume loading, meters really good. Much better than 4064! I have a friend that loves 4064 in his 223 but I cringed at the thought of throwing 1000 charges for a prairie dog shoot! Benchmark and h4895 are great 223/308 powders. Right now I have h4198 imr8208, h335, blc-2 , benchmark, cfe223, h4895, varget and imr4064 sitting on the shelf for 223/308 loads.
