Say you got a pound of 7828 and a 300 Weatherby, and you have...
208 amax
200 Smk
178 amax
which bullet weight would work best in that powder and 300 Weatherby?

3006, my son is using 7828SSC for his 300 Wby with 200 gr Partitions. The 200 accubond was less accurate and he wants to try 210 Bergers next. Good luck

I have several custom long range rifles built on Bat actions / Halls, etc. To date my most accurate rifle is a 300 Wby I built in 1994 on a Mark 5 action. 80.00 of 7828 / 3000 fps with a 210 Berger. Will routinely shoot less than 1 in. groups at 300 and 4-5 in. at 1000-1250. I am going to be really bummed when this barrel is finally shot out.

According to your info, it seems I might want to try the 208's with 7828.
Thanks for sharing.

the heavier the better in the 300roy imo... My buddie's accumark wouldn't settle down until we put either the 220 smk or the 225 hdy match in her with 7828 and a 215. Lighter than 200 grains was a shotgun no matter the powder.

Thanks everyone, I have a bunch of 208's,I'll do a load workup as soon as my brass and dies show up from Midway.

Do you guys think a 3.5 inch eye relief scope is enough for the Vanguard ? I'm thinking of adding some weight to the stock if its hollow, until I get it braked. I'll have to measure the barrel diameter at the muzzle to see if there is enough meat to thread it. If not I may go with a Witt brake, they claim 60% reduction I bet 40-50% is realistic, even at 40% it should put me down to .308- 30-06 recoil which is comfortable for me. I'm not recoil shy at all, so it may be fine without a brake. I'll find out this afternoon...

3.5 in. should be plenty of eye relief. I have found the most accurate way to shoot light and medium weight magnum rifles is to pull them into your shoulder with (in my case) approx 5 lbs. of pressure. A snug fit into your shoulder not only settles the rifle down and makes recoil characteristics more consistent, it also cuts down on felt recoil.

Proceed with caution- but I would personally consider 76 grains a good place to start.
Thanks man, you have been very helpful.
Now all i have to do is wait for my brass and dies, I had a few choices in brass, Hornady, Remington, Weatherby,Nosler and Norma. I went with Norma it was priced just a little cheaper than Weatherby and i figured Weatherby brass is Norma brass....

we went to 79 gr 7828 in the accumark 300roy my buddy has but settled on 77 grains with either the 225 hdy hpbt or 220 smk with nos or roy brass and a 215... ymmv though and start rather mild in case your bore is tighter than his is...
