I'm attempting to load some 130gr seirra in 270 around 3000fps. I I have some factory loaded by Federal that shoot great and that was the fps. I loaded with H4831SC at the same length of the factory round. Went 56.6, 56.8, 57, 57.2, 57,4. Should have hit the 3000 mark in that area. Didn't really have anything worth taking a look at. Was curious how much difference the IMR4831 would be?

IMR is a bit faster and will have slightly less case fill. Look for a load starting around 49

270 win ?? im not sure ya made it to 3000 fps , based on this data below for H4831 , i would keep going with the h4831 until you hit pressure or max , is yours 24" barrel ??

i have had good luck with IMR too but, id finish your run with the H first (because of the "C" at the max charge) .. good things happen right when the powder is full . but first , you gotta make sure you can get up to full a little at a time

Its worth a try, I get better velocities out of IMR 4831 than H4831 in my 25-06 with 115. I wouldn't surprise me if it did the same with lighter bullets like 130grs in 270win.

You didn't listen to me and start with H4350...

H4831SC will get you to 3000 fps also, but you will likely need to be in the 59-60 gr range.

I ve shot lots of imr4831 with 130 s in numerous rifles. Always have sub-moa accuracy and good velocity. 3000-3100 fps is very attainable with 22" or longer barrels. 56 to 57 grs has typically been spot. Work up from 54-55 though.

IMR is not as temp stable as H in my experience but it's always been easier to get velocity and as I stated accuracy has been solid!!

I've been using imr4831 in 264wm for over 35 years. Great results! I do have some h4831, but haven't used any yet.

I started loading in 1970 with my favorite caliber, the 270 Winchester. Since that time, I've owned or loaded for many 270's. In my experience, you haven't come close to 3000fps yet. You will likely find it with H4831 north of 59g. The majority of rifles that I have loaded for will have node in the 59-60 range. Most seem to like being loaded near max as well. My favorite load that works well in most rifles is 60g of H4831 or the sc version in Winchester brass using CCI LR BR primers pushing a130g Nosler Accubond or Partition. YMMV

I've finally settled on H-4831sc for my .270 shooting 130gr Berger Custom Hunter bullets. The load is 58.5 grains producing an average of 3027fps. Most important to me, is that the load consistently produces subMOA groups. Hope the information is helpful.

Stay with H4331 or H4831SC as it's been said IMR is just a little faster and more than a bit higher in its pressure curve. Where are you finding your load data? Here's an article that might be of interest to you. Good luck , Cheers
