IMR 4350 for 30.06

I have a pound of IMR 4350 and I intend to load up some Hornady 150 Grain SST bullets for my Ruger 30.06. I find Load Data for the Hornady 150 Grain Boat tail but not the SST. Can any of you tell me where to find Load Data Using the Hornady SST 150 gn. bullet for the 30.06???

Nosler says 59 gr max for a 150 gr bullet. So reduce down to 56 or so and work back up, should be somewhere in there.

QL shows 60.5 as max. Hornady 8th edition lists 59.9 as max for the 150 SST.

NOPE, the "mothers milk" for any short mag or cartridge based on the /06 casing, irregardless of caliber, H-4350 !! Always just a little better than it's cousin..

When I started reloading for my 30-06 I used IMR 4350 and the 165gr SST's and I was not a fan of the combo and performance on game. I ended up trying some Berger 168's and H4350 and now the gun shoots lights out (literally 3 shots in one ragged hole at 100 yards). I believe with the 165's my load with H4350 is 55gr if that helps at all!

Back in yesteryears, we burned untold lbs of IMR4350 in several cartridges and rifles, and while not the best temp stable propellant, it worked very well. Actually, some of the best 30-06 200yd groups I ever had came with a load of 56.5gr and a 165/168 Sierra. In the 150gr varieties, we ran in the 59-60gr range, but one long throated rifle I had loved 61gr with a 150 Speer.

Sure H4350 is as good or better because of its temperature insensitivity and there are numerous other "modern powders" that do well also. But if IMR 4350 is all you have, just smile and use it!

56.7 grains of A4350 behind 168 gr. Sierra Match Kings shoots a "ragged hole" at 100 yds. from my 700 BDL 30-06. Pretty sure the Game Kings would shoot as well.

Watch for pressure signs and do not hot rod it as it is summer. Be sure to check velocity again in fall/winter/hunting temperatures as I have had powders that were not stable go to pot when it got colder. Just to make sure you know its velocity. Unless you are hunting in normal ranges, then just chuutit...

I would start at 56 grains of IMR4350 and you can work up from there.
