Alls I gotta say is, John Mayall's incredible! I got to see the Bluesbreakers in Boulder about 10 years ago or so and he was as good as ever. Thanks for posting that.

why is Idaho is issuing depradation permits for antlerless elk right now? How many depradation permits are being issued in other states?

My guess is that its because the wolves are moving them on to private ground that traditionally had few, if any, elk.
Those elk grazing on ranchers pastures and fields that are needed to feed cattle are not very welcome. That's why the permits are only good on private ground.
If fish and game doesnt make an attempt to curb the problem, the ranchers will.
Again, just a guess.
The depredation permits are very localized and so is the wolf problem, but obviously in different areas.
Neither problem speaks to the overall populations.

To add to what MtPockets says, the elk learn they are safe on private ground and the wolves learn they are not safe were the elk hang on said ground.
That is how diseases get a foothold.
Chase the elk off, let the precious wolves kill at wanton, or let PEOPLE fill some freezers.

They don't know what fun is, killing is in their instincts. Hungry or not. Moose, elk,deer,coyotes,cats,grouse whatever it may be. Healthy or not ,if they can catch it they will kill it.Its what they do.

Especially when it's a Californian whom thinks he knows more about big game hunting and the introduction of the wrong wolf species in my state. Not to mention the livestock they've destroyed. Bottom line.....we have had years of bad game and habitat management in much of this country! The wolf was and is just one more bad example!
Rich or poor we are all hunter and lovers of the outdoors......we just need to be as cohesive and proactive as the anti hunter, anti-gun, treehuggers that are destroying our sport! Same faction, that IMHO, is destroying my country!
