I just bought a 28 Nosler ...

It's a Savage Ultra Light with the Proof Carbon wrapped barrel , just a hunting gun . I'm new to this caliber , but it seemed to check off a lot of boxes .
I have a Nikon Black FX1000 scope , but thinking maybe it needs a lighter scope . I also have an Accupoint 4x16 . I ordered ADT brass and RCBS dies , and have several different bullets . I'm thinking ELDX 180 to start with ? I have VLD 168's and Partition 160's , and ELDX 162's and 150's with RL25 and 19 , plus H4831SC . Of course I'll start low and work up , off several loading charts .
Anybody have any input on what might work bet ? Just trying to get a head of the game , I'm sure someone has this all figured out already .
Oh , and it's a 1 in 8.4 twist .
Oh part deux , it didn't come with a brake , what would you get for a brake ?

Definitely gunna want a grips brake. I'd look at muzzle breaks and more. Look at there beast 5 port brakes. You could have once turned down to the od of the barrel.

Unknown Munitions has their TI PRO 3 self timing brake. It's a 5 port and will cut the recoil down like you wouldn't believe.

I'd start with the 180 ELDX or 180 VLD's (they're available online)

180 VLD's or Hybrids or 195 EOL's is what I shoot. 195's at 3,120 and 180 hybrids at 3,190'. Hell of a caliber. Your gonna love it.

wow. what velocity are you getting out of the 143's. Love them in a saum but I bet those are flying 3500+

RL19 isn't going to be the one you need. Neither is 4831. Not sure about RL25 but I suspect it will work fine for fire forming and barrel break in etc. You are going to want RL26 for max performance with the light bullets, RL33 and N570 are the ones to get for heavy bullets if you want to get everything possible for speed. H1000 and Retumbo work great also.

Any good brake will work well, the least concussive brake I have direct experience with is the Piercision muscle brake. It works well as a brake, but to me the huge advantage is that it doesn't ring your bell nearly as badly as some of the other brakes out there as the shooter. I've shot my 28N plenty with the Little Bastard self timing brake, it works quite well but it is more concussive as the shooter. I am running a can on my 28 and the dead air keymo brake adaptor is also a very good brake when not using the can, far better than I expected.

Once you get the powders you need for heavy bullets I think a heavier scope might be a blessing....

You will need the brake, I would look at a 5 port self timing brake. I have shot 195gr Berger in mine at 3040fps with RL33, very accurate, 180gr Berger HVLD using Retumbo we're North of 3100 and now have started using 169gr. Hammer Hunter with H1k and pushing it 3234fps. You will burn out the throat close to 1/8" per 150 rounds if you run it pretty warm. Try and keep your shot string low and not let the barrel heat up. 180 hybrid with H-1000 or Retumbo is my favorite. I would also go TI pro 3 if I didn't have a brake.

I'm currently shooting the Hornady 166 A-Tip pushed by Retumbo in my 28 Nosler.

The 28 Nosler will thrive on slow burning powders and heavy bullets, especially with your twist rate.

My chronograph reads a little slow but j"under 3500fps with 11 shots on a 24" barrel. The groups 2 in same hole and one touching and the other was a nice clover leave that measured .315. Only have 11 shot through the barrel so it might speed up a bit! Used adg brass also but had to do alittle prep work on them but liked!

You mean guys are still buying 7mms that don't begin with PRC .
I dig the 180 eldm but with nos velocities I'd lean more towards a 180 vld

I love the 28n running the 143g Hammer Hunter at about 3600 fps. N570 has been our go to. I know guys get nearly the same with Retumbo. This combo it tough to keep up with to 900y.
