How do you know what ring height you need?

I am going to be putting 2 new scopes on my daughter .243 Remington 700 SA BDL and my wifes .25-06 Tikka T3. I really like the Talley one piece lightweights as I am trying to keep weight down on both and I have had great luck with these rings on my sons 7WSM Savage.

I am going to keep in the 40-44mm obj size range for weight.

I put on the the Nikon BDC 5-20x44mm on my sons 7WSM and I am really impressed with this scope for the money. since my wife and daughter dont shoot as often or as far and lighter caliburs I am looking at the Monarch BDC in 4-16x42 for both. I would like any other suggestions as well??

I know they say the 30mm tubes dont actually offer much more light transmission if any at all but with going with the smaller obj. would it be worth looking into 30mm scopes? I am used to 50-56mm obj. scopes.
