So went to the range yesterday to site in the new to me Bergara premier 7mm-08. Took the model 7 to make sure it's on for the hunt Saturday.

Hornady 150 is what I started with for the beragar. Shooting smooth an easy, on paper an walking the shots closer an closer then click! Miss fire. Brand new box mind you. I didn't think nothing of it. These things happen. Kept shooting got it centered. Moved over to the 100yd.
Shooting smooth an easy down to 5 rounds left.
Almost have it dialed in, then there went click, click click. No bang.
Now I'm down to 2. So now I'm worried it's the gun not ammo.
Got the model 7 out, took 1 of the 150's an tried it boom no issues. Ok so now I definitely thinking it's the gun. So I use my last round in the Bergara an boom. So I'm confused. So I
Then tried the 139's the 7 shoots cause now I'm out of the 150. Yes I know there different.
yes I know I need to site in off main ammo I'll be using but things are not going well so yeah you guessed it 5 more clickity click no boom.
So i took all the 9 rounds an tried them in the 7.
No go.
An did it again. So 3 attempts on 9 rounds.
The 150 I bought that day the 139 I had a month or so. Now I'm worried I got 50 rounds of Russian roulette. An im praying nothings wrong with bergara rifle firing pin.

No I didn't take photos I should have.
No I didn't keep the ammo ranger master wouldn't let me.
Kept all the old brass but that doesn't help.
So ill be taking 3 rifles to the cabin this time around just to be safe an pray it was just a fluke of primers an I don't have issues with 2 guns.

So this ever happen to someone?

Update. Called the range an I misinterpreted the RM. He didn't want misfires laying around an had intended to return them to me on my way out. I'll have the miss fired rounds in a few hours an post photos.

Yes-- with 55 year old Czech surplus steel case ammo 😁

I've had over pressure/pierced primers in s&b ammo before ( they replaced all of it but it took quite a while)-- but I've never had new factory ammo that wouldn't fire. Did you contact hornady to see if they have had any recent lots of recalled ammo?

On a side note-- I don't care what the "range master" says-- it's my ammo, I paid for it, I'm taking it home with me.

Probably a "safety" protocol is my guess.. it's still my ammo though, it's not theirs to keep.
I worked on ranges, I know of no safety protocol for them to do that. IMO there is no justification for doing that. If the OP purchased the ammo it's his. If the range manufactured the ammo and sold it to the OP it's still his.

In any case if you purchased the ammo then it's yours, not theirs. I would have saved the ammo and purchased a different brand of ammo. If the samething happened with the other ammo I'd call Bergara. If not then I'd call Hornady.
I'll try another brand an see.
Only 1 range that's close to me that's 100 an 200 never been there until that day.

it would have been nice to get headspace measurements on those misfires. I got a box of Hornady 243 brass earlier this year that was short on the headspace causing the same problem. sounds like some short brass made it into ammo also
What I'm now worried about is the primers from the Bergara look like a pin
The model 7 look catered or mushroomed.

I'm calling the range today. I'm hoping they will toss them back to me.

No I haven't contacted Hornaday yet. Got a newborn as well so I'm learning how to balance my life.

I didnt press the issue I was more ppissed about possible rifle failures the day before I leave to hunt an the possibility I have a lotta ammunition that's not reliable.
They seemed like good folks I'm gonna call an see if I can get it back. An maybe I misinterpreted things he might of meant I couldn't keep it out on the range idont know. No use in fretting over what happened in the past. I'll just ask more questions next time.
