Hey Rich! SS Treatment to the WSM?

Do you think there would be a worthwhile gain in velocity with the heavier bullets by giving the SS profile to the WSM case? I'm looking at 6.5 and 7 mm. You should get the longer barrel life with a nice increase in case capacity.

It wouldn't be of any great benefit as a 700 SA repeater but could as a single shot or in an action with a longer mag well and ejection port like the Defiance Deviant Medium (same footprint as the 700 SA) when used with the Bainey mag box at 3.11" max length. I just so happen to have one of those actions waiting for the right barrel to come along.

There would likely be a minimal gain in velocity, but you would still have the short neck and even larger capacity, so I doubt the barrel life would be any better......Rich

What I had in mind was the shoulder moved back and blown out approximately the same amount on the 270 WSM case as the SS is from the 7mm SAUM case and with the longer neck the SS has, thus resulting in a slightly longer and larger capacity case than the SS. With the 5 grain larger case capacity of the 270 WSM parent case than the 7mm SAUM parent case (I would think this would still hold true if both cases were given proportionately the same SS profile in 7mm), I would think 100 or more fps gain would be possible with the 7mm 180 gr VLD and the larger case would make the 195 gr VLD feasible while reaping the benefits of longer barrel life from the longer neck.
