Hi all,

like most of you, I am having trouble finding primers of any type. I recently purchased a new Bergara 14 Wilderness in 300 Win Mag. I have been loading a variety of bullets using Federal 215 Match Large Magnum Primers and have had excellent results. I am now down to less than 225 primers. I have found a source for CCI large magnum 250’s. They are not referenced in any of my books so I was wondering if anyone has used this primer in their 300 mag and how they were working out?

Thanks for any and all suggestions or comments!

Buy those CCI 250 primers right now! No telling when you will be able to get any more Fed 215 primers! I am sure those CCI 250 primers will work much better than no primers! :)

CCI 250's will work, FINE , I'd try them !
Win Magnum Primers, shot, slightly larger groups, in my .270 WSM than, the feds or, cci's did when I tested them, years ago.

F-215's were always, best, accuracy wise / Hottest primer "Flame" and what, I "settled" on for my,.. 270 Wby, .270 WSM,
7 mm Rem Mag and .338 Win. Mag.
They always Fired, in Snowy - Wet, Decembers for, me !
I have 200 left and would like, 300 more, but,. ???
I will SPARINGLY, use what I have for,.. Moose ( If, I draw ) and Elk.
Personally, I'd BUY them, and test for POI changes and use, the CCI's for, Practice,.. IF need be !
Wouldn't worry too much, as they'll go,.. Bang

CCI # 250 LM RP will and do perform very well in .300 Win Magnum rifles.
They have been around a very long time and I feel that they run slightly hotter than the federals do.
With that said I would strongly suggest that you chronograph your loads using the Federal # 215 primers as a bench line and compare to those rounds fired using the Cascade Cartridge #250's.
This will be stickily for your personal knowledge as well as your curiosity.

I would buy up as many as you can physically carry at this point in time. No telling when you may stumble upon them again.
I have used standard large primers in most magnums, the only one’s I steer clear of are Remington primers of any description, they are COLD. Federal, CCI, Winchester and Wolfe are my picks.

Cheers.

Just have to check your loads for pressure signs. Back down a couple of grains and work back up at 1/2gr increases. Then shot for groups. Your are already use Mag primers so it shouldn't take to many rounds to check that out. You should be using a chronograph at the same time to be checking velocity to see how they match up with the 215's. Next is grouping. Hopefully it doesn't change that much. Primers are a part of the reloading process and can change things.
I am beginning to wonder where are all those primers are at? You would think that they should be showing up more.

I use both CCI 250s and F215M primers for my 300 WMs. For some loads, the CCI 250s work better than the 215Ms. I have found this to be the case using RL26 in both my 300 WMs and 6.5 SAUM. As pointed out above, they will certainly work better than nothing and you always have the option to use CCI 250s for your non-critical shooting so you can extend the use of your 215s.

You are so lucky to find primers to buy. Buy them all. I would buy them if I had the opportunity. Lucky you.

I've only ever used Federal 215 M in both my .270 Weatherby and .300 Weatherby mags, since the 70's. I'm down to my last 125 . Found an old pack of 100 Remington LR Magnum. I would buy a brick of the CCI if I were you. !!

I agree this is a lucky find and it’d be foolish to pass it up. I do have to say, it’s this “buy them all” mentality that results in there being none to buy. This not limited to gun stuff either....Covid toilet paper shortage anyone?
