"Splat Factor"

There's been a lot written about the "splat factor" of various Hammer bullets here and in the Hammer Forum. This got started with the experiments done on multiple animal species in Australia. Great stuff! (Hammered Downunder)
Well, not to be outdone, we also have some "splat factor" here in the States!
On Tuesday afternoon I was working on loads for my 6.5 Sherman Max (between rain showers). As luck would have it, a Huge horsefly lit on my target. I thought, this will never happen again - why not ?!?
There has also been quite a bit of discussion on best stability factor (2 or more preferred) for reliable penetration and no tumbling while the bullet travels through tissue and bone. Velocity and twist have been discussed at great length.
Well, it appears that a horsefly is no match for an 85gr Hammer Hunter at 3952 fps. Note also that the "splat" is nicely round, indicating a centered hit and no tumbling as it penetrated bone, hide and tissue!
What'ya think?

LOL, awesome!

Yesterday in preparation for the hunt today at a TX Guard base I took out the 06 launching th 137HH for cold bore and 2 more. Did not take any pictures of the shots. Too many interruptions on the range, got sidetracked. I put up 3 ShootNC 1 inch pasters at 200. 1st shot center punched it, clipped the 2nd, and the 3rd.

I drank the BB KoolAid, ran the rounds though Lee FCD 1/4 turn. Why 1/4? No work up done just what I felt like.

LabRadar readings were not bad. Charge were done on FX120i Autotrickler, 58.5 N540, CCI250, 137 at 3.22.

Waiting for the legal hour to harvest a doe, still dark here in CenTex, and wind howling.

OK, quickly, what is the full value correction for this load, 137HH at 300 yards with the wind at 35MPH?
That Kool Aid tastes good, don't it ?

30-06, 24" barrel, 1-10" twist, nothing special about it.

Suppressed  👍

No marks, but new brass
Killed two with it this weekend. Both were DRT, one quite literally dropped and didn't move, one made it less than 10 feet.

Good job Quiet Texan and thanks for load data.
That load is super close velocity wise to the load I have taken many deer and elk in my 300 win mag with 180 gr Accubond I have used for years! My velocity is 2964 fps.I will work up a load for one of my 30-06's and see if I can get to the same load you did.
Hard to beat a 30-06 and Hammer bullets.

75 gr HH on top of 40 gr IMR-3031, Lapua brass, COL 2.407"
This load shot very well. 3526 fps @ 40*F, grouped .032", ES 8, SD 5.7
No pressure signs but it is getting close to max.
3031 is an often overlooked powder and also gave similar results with my 243.

Got load data for a 30-06, 22" barrel

137 Hammer Hunter
CCI 200 primer
Remington brass
61 grains Varget
Heavy crimp from RCBS die
Seated like this (I'll get actual OAL measurement later) -

3360+, 60 grains was 3360, haven't checked velocity on the 61 grain load, but it shot better. Velocity aquired via lab radar. No bolt lift, no ejector mark, but it's a top end load for sure.

With my 30-06, it seems like the 137s likes to play well in that velocity range. Plenty fast and repeatable. On mine the cold bore and follow up insurance shots have been under half minute at 200. I am only using 58.5 of N540 and LC67 Match brass, but with 28 inch barrel. The small batch of fully prepped brass have been through over a hundred rounds, primer pockets are still tight.

Just like you I can still push the velocity, but I am happy with the precision node at the moment.

Here's a ladder load I did yesterday on one of my 6.5-284s -26 in Lija 1-9 twist with the 121 gr HammerHunter using V - N165 ,cci200 primer and Lapua Brass oal 2.850 . 57.5 grs -3242 fps-58grs-3267fps -59grs -3306fps -59.5 grs -3318 fps and 60.0 grs at 3359 fps I had no pressure signs the load became very compressed and started interfering with bullet seating so stoped there next powder too try will be N 560 I think I can load too 3400 fps plus . Over all I think this will be a decent load for tha 121 gr Hammer hunter all powder charges from 55 too 60 grs never went over 1 in most .5 and under total 13 shot load work up

I do love these bullets a few weeks ago my son shot a buck at last light and he ran so he came back too camp and got me too go find him , when we got back too where he shot him there was some blood and a piece of rib bone . I told my son if you got that bullet in the boiler room he's not far find him that's the confidence I have with these bullets 5 min later this old guy with my Marcel Ledbetter head lamp on did just that , . My son shot the deer 6 in too far back angling through the lungs exiting on the opposite side hitting flesh and lungs as the bullet entered and one rib as the bullet exited at 200 yds lungs were mush perfect bullet performance
