I was thinking lighter? it’s so a younger guy can shoot with about the same recoil but still be similar energy. They haven’t been shooting the win mag because of recoil so I got to thinking I might be able to tame it down yet still be effective. Must say they are extremely happy with the 116’s and got 3 big muleys the last was from the 12 year old grandson and was a huge body. Biggest my buddy has ever seen. Hopefully I can get the dust off the 300 win mag so they’re not all sharing the same gun. Thanks ButterBean, definitely appreciate the advice
I like that even better, go all in and run the 124

Didn’t know this thread existed until a few days ago. I only knew about the absolute thread. I need to do more poking around on this site. Anyway, here is a little bit of playing around I’ve done with the HH:

22-250rem
Tikka t3x; 1:8”, 22.4”
Lapua brass, new. Cci-200
1/8 lee fcd
70gr HH
IMR-4166
30gr—2945
31gr—3029
32gr—3154
33gr—3258
34gr—3351
35gr—3511, little stiff bolt

All of these shot 2” @200y. I used 33, 33.5, and 34gr and shot a few groups all waaaay under moa. Best was 0.44”@200y

.300 weatherby
Weatherby mark V
24”, 1:10”
Nosler brass, new. Fed 215
1/8 lee fcd
180gr HH

75.0gr H4350
3,050 fps. Shot 1/2”. Just used this since elk hunt was right around the corner. Room to go up.

338rum
Rem 700 factory. 26”
Nosler brass, 1x. Cci250
1/8 lee fcd
235HH

Imr-4955
86–3019
87–3079
88–3137, stuff bolt. Maybe started a bit too high.

H-1000
94–3065, slight ejector here. Maybe these are a bit high of a starting point.
95–3091
96–3145, bright ejector mark starts here
97–3138
98–3155

26" Browning Xbolt - Dead Air Nomad L
.300 Win Mag
181 HH
RL-26
Hornady Brass
CCI 250
3.603" COAL
FCD 1/8th turn

79.5 - 3180 fps

Looks like with both the 181 HH and the 123 AH in the 6.5 PRC they prefer 1/8th turn rather than 1/4 or no crimp.

Also got a chance to test some loads for my Bison hunt after a Buffalo Shoot at our local club. Shot the 405gr lead bullets at a moderate 1400 fps for the match then broke out the hotter hunting test loads.

45-70 - 30” Shiloh Sharps
402 Shock Hammer
H4198
Starline Nickel Brass
CCI 200
2.603 COAL
FCD 1/8th turn

42gr - 1800 fps

Only loaded five to determine my zero but it had a SD of 9.9fps so I’m calling it good as I can’t shoot the difference with irons and Bison are really big targets. Going to take it out for our old school weekend and see if I can get a whitetail with it.

Couple more for you GL.

Remington 783 308 win, 10 twist with a 16.5” barrel, Peterson LRP brass, WLR primer, RL10x, 124grn HH seated to last groove and crimped with Lee FCD.

40grn 2764fps
41grn 2871fps
42grn 2941fps
43grn 2958fps (super flat node from 42-43.5grn, only 26fps increase)
44grn 2999fps
45grn 3043fps
46grn 3118fps (light EJ mark, flattening primer)
47grn 3165fps (same, still easy bolt lift but stopped)

After cleaning the gun I shot 3 at 44.7grn speeds were 3010/3011/3008. Out of a 16.5” barrel I’m pretty happy with that!

Next Defiance 338 SS, 24” proof 9.4 twist, ADG brass, Fed210M, RL17, 213 HH no crimp seated to second to last grove.

63grn. 2924fps
64grn. 2967fps
65grn. 3031fps (EJ mark and stopped)

Cleaned and reloaded 3 at 63.6grns, speeds were 2951/2946/2944fps. Wanted to take this further to test but wind was too strong. Wish I had some varget to try in this thing…

Thanks,

Ryan

I have a 6.5 PRC Load in here, copied from a post I had over on the Hide...I included primer info. I notice some folks using magnum primers. Any differences or gains in accuracy using a Fed 215 over a CCI 200? I have some Fed 215s I could try as well.
