Anybody used both of these bullets? I have a good load for each. The 195's are at 3040fps and the 177's are at 3119 fps. Both pretty much have about the same drop at 700 but the berger has 2141ft lbs of energy and the hammers are at 1758. Just reading on the hammers people seem to be happy with them on game. Any thoughts on these two bullets versus each other would be great. Thanks.

Something sounds amiss here.

Both will kill great. Maximum intended range would be my deciding factor. If your not likely to shoot over 600ish yards, the hammers will do great. If you would feel comfortable taking a shot well over 600 out to 1000 or maybe more, use the Berger. Your Hammer load will still likely work at those ranges, look at impact velocity and keep it above 1800 fps, and essentially disregard energy with the way that hammers work, however they will rapidly start falling behind in ballistic performance. Less room for error on your wind call.

I'm huge copper fan for hunting now. I haven't used the hammers on game but friends had great results. I've used the Pva copper hunting bullets with amazing success and wouldn't go back. I hate bullet failures and I feel more comfortable with the copper but that's personal opinion

I had a picture of a recovered 195 that was bent at the tip and never expanded.
I won't use them anymore, granted I didn't clean out the tip, but impact velocity was 2800 fps

I've shot a good number of elk with both bullets, I carried both, zeroed for the 177 HH and then dialed for the 195 Berger. Probably one of the best combinations possible from a 28 Nosler. You can make a mess with a 195, it's aggressive inside 800 and IMO really starts coming into perfection out beyond 1000, took elk with them well beyond that down to 1600 fps from a start of 3120 which is pushing it, I don't think there is a one bullet solution for the 28.
