Gunfight rules

"Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading."
In a gunfight, the most important rule is ..... HAVE A GUN!!!

These are shooting tips from various Concealed Carry Instructors.
If you own a gun, you will appreciate these rules...
If not, you should get one, learn how to use it and learn the rules.

RULES

A : Guns have only two enemies: rust and politicians.

B : Its always better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

C : Cops carry guns to protect themselves, not you.

D : Never let someone or something that threatens you get inside arm's length.

E : Never say "I've got a gun." If you need to use deadly force, the first sound they should hear is the safety clicking off or the hammer cocking.

F : The average response time of a 911 call is 23 minutes; the response time of a .357 is 1400 feet per second.

G : The most important rule in a gunfight is: Always Win - there is no such thing as a fair fight. Always Win - cheat if necessary. Always Win - 2nd place doesn't count

H : Make your attacker advance through a wall of bullets .... You may get killed with your own gun, but he'll have to beat you to death with it because it will be empty .

I : If you're in a gun fight: (a) If you're not shooting, you should be loading. (b) If you're not loading, you should be moving. (c) If you're not moving, you're dead.

J : In a life and death situation, do something .... it may be wrong, but do something !

K : If you carry a gun, people will call you paranoid. Nonsense! If you have a gun, what do you have to be paranoid about?

L : You can say "stop" or any other word, but a large bore muzzle pointed at someone's head is pretty much a universal language; and, you won't have to press 1 for Spanish/Mexican or 2 for Chinese or 3 for Arabic.

M : Never leave an enemy behind. If you have to shoot, shoot to kill. In court, yours will be the only testimony.

N : You cannot save the planet, but you may be able to save yourself and your family.

Amen... That motivated me to want to buy another pistol. The rifleman's creed is another good one, but it's a little long. Lol. Thanks for sharing.

I know it was posted as humor, but most CCW carriers do not understand the risk they are at

Slight change to M to save a big legal issue that can come from "your words". Never shoot to kill, shoot to stop!

Never aim to wound either, but stop em' now. If they die from 4 shots center mass, oh well but you did not "intend" to kill.

Yours will never be the only testimony in court either.

If you really want to find out your risk from a self defense shooting and how to protect yourself, get this book, "the Law of Self Defense' 2nd edition by Andrew Branca, Attorney $22 on Amazon. Covers legal issues of self defense in all 50 states, some states demand that you retreat and others do not, the real dangers of coming to defense of others etc.

Massood Ayoob has a great DVD called "Cute Lawyer Tricks" that everyone must have. Really shows how your "words" can get you convicted in criminal or civil trials if you do not say the right phrase at the right time or prevent you from ever going to trial.

You forgot some important rules. My wife was a prosecutor for 12 years and criminal defense attorney for five, now in her own practice. She teaches the legal aspect for concealed carry. Here are some important rules! You may have done everything right but you are under stress and will remember things differently after all the adrenaline has run out of your body. This will make your statement change and not look good in court.

The cops are not your friends. They are investigating a scene and they may have preconceived ideas they are trying to make evidence work into their idea of what happened. Give a man enough rope and he will hang himself.

Your response to the police should only be...."I was afraid for my life and I want an attorney."

Do not make any statements as you are under stress, NOT TO ANYBODY! In most police shootings the cops don't give statements right away but they expect you to. So do not give any statements without an attorney present even if you were 100% right in a use of deadly force case.

Very sound advice.

You never say anything remotely indicating you shot to kill, "I shot to stop them", period.

"I was in fear of my life" or "I was in fear of another (name them) person's life.

"I shot to stop the threat".

"I will answer no further questions without first consulting my lawyer".

You never say anything whatsoever to indicate you planned this event or that you were lying in ambush in any form or fashion.

In some states I promise you that the intent of the police and prosecutors is to find some way to prosecute you for murder in some form or fashion no matter how right you were in shooting the bad guy.

Lastly carry self defense insurance. NRA has several partners that offer it at reasonable prices. Plan on spending 100k or more to keep yourself out of jail because you very easily can.

Under Florida Law for example Zimmerman should never have been arrested much less charged and sent to trial. He was made a scapegoat by the state who prosecuted him to satisfy an angry mob. His defense in all likelihood cost over 200k.
