I like them to weigh 11 to 14 lbs depending on the caliber and use. My walking around rifles are 10 to 11 pounds for steadiness, and prone hunting rifles are up to 14 lbs. I have tried the lighter rifles and without a rest and out of breath (Common in the mountains for us flatlanders) they are not very steady and longer shots are marginal. It is just a mater of likes and dislikes and ones preference. J E CUSTOM
My heaviest carry(hunting) rifle is 11lbs. Wish it weighed <10lbs. This includes ~1lb of Harris bipod
I'm with JE on this one, 12 1/2 lbs with a Nightforce and a bipod is fine with me. Stable and a dream to shoot. My Lapua goes over the 18 lb mark scoped with the A-5 and #7 contour Lilja. I keep it for a day where the walk in is not over a mile or two and I plan on setting for the most part. Jeff gun)gun)
