Going Back To Where I Started........... Kinda

Well I finally got time to do some fire forming and some load work up on two bullets, 35g HH and the 52g HH, I will go ahead and tell you I made a mistake on the twist rate@ 7.0, as slick as the Hammers are 4770 is all I can get out of the 52g HH safely in my rig, the twist is just to tight had it been a 9 twist I feel sure I would have made 5K.
The 35 made it to 5138 safe in my rig, load work up was done with 3 shots for each bullet, ended up at 64g of H 4350 with the 35 and 62g of H4350 with the 52's. Both with CCI 200's
I have 51AH' and 44g HH's on the way to test, a little disappointed in myself but I'll take it regardless, no crimp on these loads as I have sent 5 cases to LEE for dies to be made, both loads followed standard Hammer load development trends, all six shots were sub 3/4 Moa.
More to come when I can get to it

Nice Bean!
I may be way off here but I don't see how you could gain 230fps 4770 to 5000 with the 52HH in a 9twist vs a 7? Although you are spinning them at 490k maybe dropping the rpm's would relieve some pressure, I'm not sure.

From our experience many years back with the old 22-06 and 22-6mmAI, even using 1/12tw we could not break 5k with 55 nor the 50's, but those were not HH bullets.

The 1/7tw should make for for a great MR/LR/ELR with the heavies

Yeah I'm actually thinking of pushing the heavier bullets fast

The easiest way I know to break the 5k mark with a 50gr .224 bullet.

I wouldn't sneeze at 4700+ fps holy smokes!

That being said, it's not 5000 and that really is a magic number isn't it? Everyone and their dog has broke the 4K barrier….heck even this dummy has done it with a .257 wby and a .300 Winnie haha. I don't know anyone personally who has broken 5000.

I'm curious…does increasing twist rate really increase pressure and inhibit velocity that much? I've heard lots of conflicting views.

I have and with the above 30-06 sabot handload with a 50gr bullet. I have also done it with a hand swaged 17gr .224 loaded in a 222 Rem with 24gr of 2400 powder (5,250fps with a rather high ES).
