Heck, I drive 100 miles round trip to shoot on a regular basis. I'm usually there at least once a week in the spring and summer.

300 miles once a year is a walk in the park.

It's not a once in a year trip, about a once a month or every couple of weeks.

It's a school up on WV, Storm Mountain Training Center. I help out and sometimes shoot when the ranges are not in use.

I'll probably go back up next week and a few more times in the next two weeks for a visit. The school is having three (3) weeks of sniper classes... Shooting (precision and distance), ghillie suit stuff, sneaking around, observation techniques, ranging via MilDot, movement ops, Escape and Evade. Just about like learning to hunt big game.

The closest target you see in the picture is about 240 yards, the furthest (from this position) is on the hill on the back side, about 700 yards

Tooks a small portion of my rifle battery out yesterday for a Zero check session. A 6mm-06 built by R.W. Hart (700 long action, Hart barrel, heavy, HS stock) 6.5 x 20 Leupold, my G-A Pres. M40A1 clone 308 3.5 x 10 Leupold, my newly acquired used Rem 40X 308 10X leupold. and "The Monkey Blaster" (soon to be renamed "The Kicking Bastard" Rem 700 sendero look-a-like in 375 H&H 3.5 x 10 Leupold. All from a bipod and sand sock off the ground (hunting position for me).

I shot some 5 shot groups for Zero confirmation, nothing too fancy just a quick check;

100 yards

6mm-06 - .529" (107 Sierra MK)
M40A1 308 - .910" (155 Lapua Scenar)
40X 308 - .894" (Fed GMM 168)
The Monkey Blaster - 1.103" (270 Nosler Accubond)

600 yards data collection effort.

6mm-06 7.17" group. Furthest round from Point Of Aim (POA) 4.7", closest to POA 2.55"

375 H&H 10.1" group. Furthest round from POA 9", closest 3.75" (horizontal displacement) I used 2.5 MOA (R) of wind, a little too much

300 mile round trip for that shooting event!! My wife says I should have a tattoo on the back of my head stating "Insert brain here..."

No more getting ready for hunting season, it's already here for us. I got this 8 point about 6:30 AM last Saturday with a .308 Win and a 165 gr. Sierra Gameking HPBT.
