For all you 30-06 owners, what bullet are you using?

I use 180 grain Nosler Accubond's with 58 grains of RL22 powder 1917 (sporterized 30+ years ago). I use the rifle on Elk in the Unitah mountains of Utah, now a backup rifle to my 338 Win Mag.

My answer is what can it not shoot! Your best answer is going to come from the rate of twist in your barrel. I personally fell in love with 180 grain grand slams from Speers.

So many rifles seem to have a few bullets that are really popular - 300wm and the Berger 215, 6.5 PRC and the 156, etc. But the 30-06 doesn't seem to have that hugely popular favorite bullet. Since there is such a huge selection of bullets, I would expect to see answers all over the map.

I wanted to shoot the Nosler 180 BT but I would get a flier a third of the time, Switched to Berger 185 VLD and it went away. With N560 I'm getting 2877 with this bullet and it should easily dispatch anything smaller than an elk, and could work for elk as well although it won't be my primary elk gun.

What are other people shooting?

Sierra 180 RN & the Sierra 165 HPBT. Carry both on all my hunts. 180's for 100yd shots & 165's for 200 or better.

200gr ELD-X. 270yd point blank zero. confidence shooting iron at 500yds. deer taken at 250yds and 10yds with similar wound performance. confidence that I can take down anything in NA, if the wife lets me try.

My favorite is 165 grain "Core-lokt" on top of Varget now but IMR 4350 for years. When I used to go to Alaska, same gun but Woodleigh 220 grain "weldcore" with IMR 4350. I have shot so many different bullets bullets out of my 1964 700 BDL including patched #1 buckshot for squirrels.

With a 10 twist Remington, the TTSX worked very well, but would like to try the hammer line to see how they do. I like the terminal aspects of Hammers over Barnes.

Hammers just flat kill better than Barnes. No disrespect to Barnes as I have shot them for years in several calibers because I live in California but switching to Hammers this past year and using them in Montana on elk and deer, they dropped the animals in their tracks.

Lately I have been using a 130 TTSX over 56g IMR 4064. Laser beam, and kills whitetails dead quick. 3072 fps.

For Elk last year, factory Federal Terminal Assent 175 grain.

Pronghorn, WT & Muleys - 150-165 Nosler BT handloads as well as factory.

H-SuperFormance has become a favorite propellant over the last few years. H & IMR-4350, 4985 & Varget work as well.

165 Hornady Interlock or 165 Partition over 57.0gr IMR4350 in a 700. About .75" at 100 and really hammers whitetails and wild hogs. 180 Accubonds over 55.0gr IMR4350 also shoot very well and I have some 178 ELDX to try out.

The old 30-06 was developed around the 150-165 Grain Bullets. (using mostly imr.4831)
That being said i am very intrested in the performance of all the newer and modern Bullets such as Hammers ect. Would appreciate any Load data you folks are willing to share.

200gr ELD-X / 53.4gr RL17 / 230 yd zero / 270yd point blank zero / Remington 700LR that has been worked over by a good gunsmith and former Ranger sniper. / I have only shot to about 600yd and have had a lot of success. It is obvious to me that I am the limiting factor. / I decided to use the same round for hog hunting in a light 30-06 Marlin that I can carry all day and is light enough for snap shots in heavy cover, Had less than 1 minute grouping at 100yds at the range last month.
