Just a spin off my muzzelebrake question I had a conversation with Carl at Kampfeld customs as I am a bit concerned about spiral fluting my barrel and bolt. Not worried about the bolt but this gun at times is .25 moa and worried the fluting could effect the accuracy. I am going to keep it at 26" and add the brake like others said no point in having an STW with a shorter barrel. Carl said in all the barrels hes done hasnt had any complaints on accuracy. Any thoughts guys? Its #4 Shilen i know it will void the barrel warranty but then again teh barrel is over 10 years old anyway. thnx for all the help with my stw makeover

Dang, my #5 contour 27" Shilen bbl'd 7stw isn't more than 10# + scope... I haven't thought of fluting her once... She's even wearing a laminate stock to weigh her down more. Your #4 should weigh in at 10oz.+ less at the same length...

I'd only flute the rifle if you think you have to for looks. You won't save a ton of weight and you could affect accuracy at least a bit...

Less barrel material = less barrel stiffness. Properly tuned loads should still have the same accuracy potential. Badly tuned loads will exhibit greater dispersion. At least that is my understanding.

Thanks guys shes been hunted quite a bit and at one point was going to sell cause just don't use as I backpack most of the time but cant seem to part with such a shooter. Was basically sending to Karl for coating and bolt fluting just to spice her up kind of though while there might as well get some other cool stuff without scope shes hair under 9 lbs recoil isn't bad but was going to add the brake so can see things fall
