Fluted barrel timing, stupid question

Rib or flute at 12:00?

Most of mine that I can remember (dangerously suspect memory) were rib up.

This seems like something to think about as well. How flutes line up to the stock line might change what's preferred. Many variables may change the answer. Quantity, width, depth (maybe) of flutes.

I recently read that when you flute a barrel it must be set to the reciever with the a flute top dead center for timing? Some gunsmith's do this and some do not so you should specify if you would like it done this way or not. Can someone enlighten me on this?
