Firearm regulation and the Constitution

I keep trying to post a new thread here, but for some reason they are not going through. I just wrote a letter to president Obummer at the White House. This is the contents of that letter, being as Sidecar wrote about constituents writing in:

Mr. President,
Are you incapable of being ashamed for your actions and words? Is there no limit to your hypocrisy? Earlier, the NRA released an ad that I believe had a very simple message; if armed guards are the answer for your children and their school, why are you not allowing us the same option for our own children? You in turn had press secretary Jay Carney fire back at the NRA, '"to go so far as to make the safety of the president's children the subject of an attack ad is repugnant and cowardly." But then today, in front of the nation, you were hypocritical enough to use children to bring your executive orders in front of the nation and to express your desires for an assault rifle ban. Shame on you Mr. President! How hypocritical can you be to use children as pawns in a political scheme. You have done the same thing that you had Jay Carney call "repugnant and cowardly".
I, as an American citizen, am deeply offended that you used today's conference to try to vilify me, and others like myself, for opposing your proposed gun legislation. You made it sound as though my efforts to protect my 2nd Amendment rights were in fact an effort to make sure that school shootings continue. Mr. President, I will not stand for this. I am a lawful American citizen who has done absolutely nothing wrong with a firearm, nor have I broken any laws. I have always used firearms safely and with respect, and it is my constitutional right to continue to do so. I refuse to give up my rights and privileges in this great nation because some very evil men have committed some very horrific acts, and I will not allow you to demonize me because I am standing in your way.
I ask you to stop lying and being hypocritical. During the second presidential debate you said, and I quote, "We are a nation that believes in the 2nd Amendment, and I believe in the 2nd Amendment". It is time for you to live up to those words and it is time for you to stop lying to the people of this nation. It is time for you to stop hiding behind children on both ends of the fight. It is time for you to stop making lawful citizens who are protecting their freedoms out to be those who are standing in the way of peace and progress. Mr. President, it is time for you to become the leader that this nation deserves!
With Utmost Sincerity,

Joseph R. Kupper

Joe:

It's not going to happen because he don't want to be a leader of a democracy, he wants to be a Chancellor of a Soicialst state. Thats what all this is about. One needs only to look past the 'smoke and mirrors' of a professional politician (one thats never held a paying, meaningful job btw) and into what's really going on in Washington, especially in the White House and with his staff.

I was shocked to discover that his own children attend a school with armed guards but he denounces armed personnel for the schools of his constitutients children. To use children as pawns to advance his agenda against the Constitution, I consider to be the lowest possible level of incompetence, but, the media proclaims his every move.

That tells you where they are as well. In his back pocket.

I want to see him get his plumage clipped. He needs a wake up call. It remains to be seen if there is enough cohesiveness in the Congress and Senate to do the job. I doubt it. We have a bunch of dysfuntional, lilly livered politicians in Washington that care only about pet projects, gratituties from lobbyists and advancing personal agendas, to have a meaningful, productive discourse concerning impeachment...and Obama fully well knows that....

He's not stupid by any means. He's arrogant. Arrogance IMO, is not a becoming trait of the President of the United States. This whole attack on the Constitution, especially, the Second Amendment should never have gone this far in the first place. This is a democracy, based entirely on the Constitution and the Bill of rights, the very foundations of this country. IMO, it's treasonous to pllay with either to advance a personal agenda, which is exactly what this is.

You can tell, I'm not overly fond of Obama........:)

Sidecar,

Amen to all of that. I agree with you wholeheartedly. I have thought that the crap that he has done from the beginning are impeachable and treasonous events. What the heck has happened with all of the Ben Ghazi happenings? Where did all of that go? I hope in the end they can find a way to make things stick, but doubt they will because, as you pointed out, there are a lot of sissy ninny's in Washington at this time and the media is COMPLETELY in his pocket.

Just showing my attempt to reason on a professional level with the unreasonable. I'm sure it is wasted time, but I am trying everything I can with all that I have.

Joe

I'm writing a pile of letters. It's about the the very existence of our sport and my favorite pastime, next to riidng motorcycles and working...lol.

The NRA-ILA has a nice sub website up where you can send multiple letters of your own composition to all your Washington representation, somethng I just did btw, I also accessed the Ruger website and did a writing stint there plus I've mailed a ton of letters out and posted on Linkden to my professional cohorts, what I feel abiut the current chain of events.

I own multiple Rugers, all handguns except a No.1 in 300 Weby. Not my favorite by a long shot but I appreciate Ruger's proactive stance, but then this is about their very existence as well. You can't stay in business, when there is no business to sell to can you???

This has a lot of implications, not just Constitututionally, but as an industry, employment and livelyhoods.

Keep writing....

The Federal Government continues to make its facilities harder targets. Schools will continue to be soft targets. I support a police officer, or more, depending on school size on duty. I do not believe this will happen as it would turn topsy turvy the gang ridden school systems power structures. The war for turf going public would be way more than the NEA will allow. Imagine thugs going to jail for assault, and kids actually being able to use bathrooms, and spend their own lunch money. Pedophiles, vandals, and drug dealers transferred to facilities set up specifically for another kind of education. Grown ups actually in charge again! Hmmm, maybe 10 years later they won't be so frightened and ****ed off, and feel less inclined to destroy the place. It ain't about logic, its all about power, never forget that.

My suggestion is to support the NRA, not because I'm a member but because the NRA is still the largest lobbying body, has the most members and has the means at it's disposal to advance our wishes, that is, for this administration to pursue the obvious choices, choices that don't dilute the very tenants of the Constitution, that is deal with people through the judicial system and mental health and pursue ways of reducing violence perpetrated against children and against all citizens instead of using this incident as a 'gun grab' to advance an agenda..

...back to reading posts....:)

I agree 100%. Whether you always agree with all the NRA's tactics, they are our only chance of protecting us from the left's primary goal of eliminating the 2nd Amendment. I'm not a lobbyist. I have used them in my unrelated business very successfully. There are 60 million gun owners in our country blowing a lot of useless hot air about their gun rights to no effect. Only 7% belong to the NRA!!!!!!!!! The NRA is the MOST powerful lobby(not just guns) in Washington. The left as well as all politicians are petrified of them. This is why the exert all the energy to destroy their credibility. Only 4.3 Million members in the NRA, many family. If only 20-30% of gun owners were members, there would be NO discussion. What we need to do is channel any energy. We have to be fanatical about getting anyone who isn't a member to Join the NRA. If they already are, send them anything, even if it's $1. Think about how much energy we waste on bitching, or worse yet, lying low. This will eventually effect all of us. We need to focus our energy where it will make a real difference. We need to do everything possible to get everyone supporting the NRA. Sorry for the soap box, but in my view, this is our best shot at keeping our rights.

Speaking of the Ben ghazi stuff it strikes me as tragic that we allowed the trials to be held after the election. Also Clinton getting a concussion the day before she has to testify?? That is a new form of BS in my opinion

I see, in the newspaper this morning, that Obama signed 'Executive Orders' concerning Firearms but none actually flies in the face of the Second Amendment and interestingly, all the 'Executive Orders' deal with laws already in place. Reminds me of our society in general today.... make a rule or regulation and don't enforce it because we don't have the manpower or it's not prudent to right now.....

The Congressional action part, Reinstituting the Assualt Wepaons Ban (of the Clinton Era) and banning the sale of magazines 10 rounds or larger has already been adjudicated as well as possession of armor piercing shells. Thats a simple matter of review and reinstatement by Congressional leaders however, the NRA and other pro firearm groups will adamately oppose that.

At this point, none of the proposals involve us in a direct manner, however, if past practice sets precident, this is only the tip of the iceberg.

I found the picture on the front page to be in very poor taste, Obama surrounded by kids from Sandy Hook. Political grandstanding at it's finest.... 'Take every advantage of a crisis for political gain', the hallmark of this administration, but Obama rebuked the NRA's web comment and ad about his kids being protected by armed guards at their school, private school I might add....

I still believe the comments on public media by Edwin Meese weighed heavily on Obama's decisions.

However, it's not over by a long shot. Obama wants nothing more that government control of everything we do or say, in essence, a socialist state.

I'm reasonably confident that steps will be taken to remove that threat and keep us all free from tyranny and opression and not to dillute or malign the very foundations and building blocks this country was built on... The Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

Raether than the end of the battle, it's the beginning, the first skirmishes in what will be the battle for our freedoms.

Never let your guard down for a second and at election time, vote for those candidates that promise to respect the Constitution and Bill of rights and never make an attermpt to compromise or take away your freedoms as citizens.

Never forget that.

OMG!!
Game on gentlemen... the govt. already has 'civil unrest holding compounds' erected in several states...

like the saying goes...

'the only requirement for evil to flourish is for good men to do nothing'...

FYI.. as a side note from Afghanistan.. which is where I am right now.. do you know how the US Army is saving money over here??? BY NOT FEEDING THEIR SOLDIERS! Yep, it's true. Effective 1 Jan breakfast was stopped being served at all bases except those commanded by a general officer. So.. out here in the boonies at my little FOB we can't even get coffee in the morning. The Army decided to FIRE all night shift dining facility workers and to stop serving breakfast as a means to cut down on costs. For breakfast we have to sneak food out of the dining facility during lunch and dinner to eat the next morning.... not even coffee, man that's some crap!! I know Clinton hated the Army, seems like it's been passed down.

Doc
As promised I did fire off some letters about this Doc, this morning at 11:00 I got a phone call from my State Represenative. He told me he looked into these allegations and could find no evidence to support this, but did say if this is indeed ging on YOU need to contact your Reps. and make them aware of it. Like I said he couldn't find this taking place. I was impressed I received a phone call from him personally. I then asked him about the proposed gun bill and where he stood he does not support it nor would he vote for it. He feels as do a lot of others on the hill that mental health, and background checks should be the issue. I asked if he thought it would pass? His response NO! We will see. lightbulb

IMO, the Hoosier is a pretty progressive state (with the exception of Gary, Indiana:)), but thats an exception, and certainly not the norm or a true representation of the state.

I consider Indiana much more progressive than Michigan (where I reside) or Ohio and certainly light years ahead in thinking than any state east of the Delaware Water Gap.

Just ask Governor Chris Christie, his opinion.....

If we only had some wide open space, and Mts.

Exactly why it's so important that we stay vigilant about this ongoing attack on our freedom, especially as it concerns firearm ownership. Feinstein wanted to make it mandatory that if we transported any forearm across a state line, we would have to get permission from that state, in writing to do just that.

Keep in mid that Feinstein hasn't went away. Neither has Chris Christie or any of the gun rights bangers in Congress or the Senate. They are all there, waiting like vultures to pounce. Obama gave a mandate to the houses that 'we need this and we need that'. Now it's up to them because Obama realized that an Executive Order maligning the Constitution was grounds for impeachment. They can make the laws. It's up to all of us and our gun advocacy groups (who I support monetarily btw) to make sure that this travesty never occurs.

Can you imagine going out west to hunt and having to get 'permission' from each and every state you traveled through. It would never happen unless you started a year in advance requesting 'permission' and if just one state said 'no', you would be screwed.

You'd think I was having an invitation only party here at the house, I've mailed out so many letters to any and all government officials. I feel like Obama signing stuff....lol. Well, I'm like Obama in that respect, I sure as hell don't want to 'feel' like him.....:D

The importance of "background checks" and "permission slips" can't be emphasized enough. Look at the foot dragging going on with suppressors etc. Don't forget your County officials in this battle. Put them on the spot.

Sidecar, enough comes through I'd never mistake you for that babbling Bozo!

I'll never tell what my wife calls me.....:)

I'm just really intense about all this and I want everyone to never think for a second that non participation and letting someone else handle it will work because it won't.

This isn't the only forum I'm on that I'm participating in this discussion and on one there are quite a few anti-firearm participants so that ones gets a bit heated but I persist.

Warning! This thread is more than 12 years ago old.
It's likely that no further discussion is required, in which case we recommend starting a new thread. If however you feel your response is required you can still do so.
