Had a good cool day and I said it's time to head to the range. Spent most of the day there and brought four of my rifles with me.
1. Varmint: 22-250
2. Deer: 280Rem
3. Larger Deer: 7mm Rum
4. Biggest Deer: 300 Rum
Chrony-CED M2 set at 15ft

Varmint: Remington XR-100 Rangemaster-22-250 Rem 26" Leupold 6.5-20X40LR SF VHR 50gr Nosler Ballistic tip varmint
Second part to testing loads for this one, the first testing didn't do so well. I only had one group that would classify as a one hole group, but with very low velocity. So I decided further testing, and here is what I ened up with.
R-P cases
Primer-Fed 210
Nosler 50gr BT
Powder-Imr-4007ssc
OAL: 2.45"
Pic one is 41gr-Group .49"
Pic two is41.5gr-group .61

Starting at 54gr and working up, groups were not that great but acceptable. These are average velocities:

56.5gr-2871
57gr-2853
57.5gr-2905 Good
58gr-2931 Good
58.5gr-2948 Best group
59gr-2976 Good

Happy with the last three loads: Especially the 58.5gr best group yet.

Had to stop at this point due to firing this and the 300 rum was getting fatigued. Still more testing not up to max yet.

Purpose: Elk and larger long range deer/elk
Cases-R-P
Primer-Fed215
180 Scirocco

This is a pic of the only decent group I could get, some other ones may qualify where I had two with in a half inch and a flyer to open it up to 1-3/4 to 2". I could have messed up on the one that opened the group up or could have been the loads.
92gr-3105
92.5gr-3118 No good 2"
93gr-3137 Ok 1.19"
93.5gr-3158
94gr-3161 no good
94.5gr-3208 OK .79"
Stopped there because I ran out of time and had enough of the shoulder pounding (300 rum and 7mm rum) made it a long day. Still more to test as I am not at max. Have three more loads to go. Will see if I can get better than my last group. If not I have retumbo sitting there waiting.

I just wanted to add a big thank you to all I have talked to and all who has helped me so far. I really appreciate all your help and wisdom in guiding me in the right direction and hopefuly still lend your help and experience. BTW, some of the pics I couldn't get loaded to the post, I could only post six. I have another 280 rem I have not put a scope on yet, but I am getting excited to pull the trigger on it. Have another big hammer, my sendero 300 rum I have yet to load any as of yet. Going to start with 200 AB and Retumbo for it. Good shootin, Meaty.

Meaty,

Very informative post. Thanks.

How are you doing with ES and US-869/

I'm having problems with it and it's the only powder I can use in my cartridge.

^^^I laughed pretty good at your classification, thanks for that :D

I'm glad to see the info on the 7RUM, it's not something we get to see very often. My experience with the 300RUM is Retumbo will probably offer what you''re looking for, at least it did for a few of my buddies.

So many combos & so little time!! :D

Thanks for the write-upgun)

With having the chrony not read some of the shots, I am thinking from muzzle blast, I didn't have some readings. The ones I have from the better groups are under 20fps. My 100gr charge is in the single digits. I can't say much more than that as this is very early in the initial loadings for this round. So far it's turning out better than expected. I'm at the desired velocity and 1 1/2 grains under what Hodgdon calls as max. I may just stay right where I am. I'll be sure to post more as I find out more. Shoot straight.

Not a problem. I did find it hard to get info on the 7rum as well. Not much out there and in Nosler #6 as well. They only have a few loads for each bullet weight. I found quite a bit on reloaders nest too. I was really surprised at how well it did and I have seen others turn in under 1/2" groups too but thought it was gonna get the better of me instead. My next choice would have been retumbo for the 7rum as I have seen many using it. As for the 300 rum I thought I'd give the H1000 a try since I had it on hand. It was either that or H870 that I hear many here talking about but not a lot of info with that powder. I was saving the retumbo for my other 300 run and 200gr AB but I'll probably just end up getting more retumbo and use for both. Shoot straight.
