FIELD TESTING SHERMAN SHORT ADG BRASS

I was able to fireform 5 rounds last night before bed in my 270 ss. I loaded 150 grain lrab .030" into the lands over 60 grains of rl 26. These cases were 1.962" before firing. After firing 2 were 1.951 and the other 3 were 1.952"! I think that's pretty consistent! I turned these necks around .013" thick. Just for fun I shot these rounds at my steel at 513 and 410 yards with guessing my speed and sight in specs and only missed once. Might have to print the rest of these fireformimg loads on paper and see how they do. I'll have more time starting Thursday to do more with this and start my 300ss.

Good start Ryan! I formed some 7ss today with 13 grains of titegroup. Worked great. I will load some up tomorrow with what I have. 175 ELDX. I will just shoot the sst as they are because they shoot just as well the first firing.

New test brass came in and i plan on running through a Smart Scope for dimensions.
Anxious to see how this brass runs through my 6.5ss Warner dies. I know i will have to neck turn this sample brass but should not have to with production lot.

I received my 6.5SS brass last night. I will get some measurements and info up this weekend. Hopefully, load up some fire forming rounds and get to the range as well.

I'm very curious to see the velocity compared to Norma brass. I tested Bertram 7 SAUM against the Norma and Bertram was 20-30 fps slower in my 65 SS. Toughness of the brass matters less to me in my hunting rifle but does matter in the target rifle. I want the fastest brass possible!

It was slower because I measured Bertram at about 1 1/2 grains more capacity. Preliminary measuring of ADG shows it in between Norma and Bertram. Just load them to equal pressure and you'll get more, not less.

But it was 95° when I left my house at 5:00am, so the motivation is slightly reduced...

Just load them to equal pressure and you'll get more, not less.

That's the crazy part. I couldn't add any more powder to the Bertram cases to get equal velocity without higher pressure. It was strange. I've set the Bertram cases aside for my target gun.

Finally was able to make some time on and off throughout the day to get 20 brass turned (.012") and fire formed in the 300 SS. I decided to just run some super high BC bullets

After necking up the 7SS brass to 30 the cases shrank to 1.953"-1.958" with the majority being 1.953"-1.954". Since I have a ton of H414 that I dont use anymore I used 59 grains with a cci 200 and the 170 grain speer jammed .030". The fired brass ended up between 1.943"-1.951".
With luck I'll get the rest of the 270 SS formed tomorrow and on to some accuracy testing. Then onto some punishment to see how it holds up and for how long. I have some Norma brass that are on their 13th firing (some primers are sloppy) and these were my initial testing brass in this rifle.

OK, tore into my 20 pieces of test brass today. My initial findings show promise.

ADG brass headstamp "6.5 Sherman Short". Nice!



Weight: 217.9 to 219.5gr. One @ 217.9, one @ 219.5. The other 18 were between 218.2 & 219.1.





Base to shoulder using a .420 Hornady comparator: 1.5285" to 1.5305".





I had one really weird one @ 1.537".....oops.



7SS brass. Won't bother me a bit.



Neck thickness: Rich turned mine before sending them out, and they are all exactly .0155".

OAL: 1.958" to 1.9605".





Outside neck diameter is all .3115". I ran them through my 6.5SS die to neck down to .291" outside, which is what I run my Norma brass at as well.



I have all 20 pieces in the tumbler now. Will chamfer inside and out and anneal before I load them up. Hopefully, tonight.

I will be using CCI BR-2, H1000, and 150 SMKs.
