Hey Guys -

I was contacted by a group that wants to put the Gunsmithing talent in the spotlight ... or through the grinder - .. either way, there is some interest to put together a high end show for builders that is complete with a judged portion to name a Gun of the Year/Gunsmith of the Year based on a few different categories. They are kinda lookin right in my back yard for a venue. There's a new casino hotel in Deadwood called "The Lodge" that is pretty much a Black Hills Bellagio. It's pretty classy.

If it floats your boat take a peek at the survey. They need to see results before they throw time and money at it. If it really floats your boat pass it on to anyone whom you think might also be interested.

Personally, I think its a novel idea would certainly try to participate. The young lady behind this has some really great ideas that could really breath some fresh air into this little past time of ours.

I've often thought that a gun show, ala car show, art show would be great. The public would get to see some amazing skills and the 'smiths woould get some exposure, not to mention bragging rights. Narrowing down the catergories would be a chore. I'd suggest actual accuracy testing to be conducted as well, just because it looks good doesn't mean it will shoot good.

As many great 'smiths that are out that way, Deadwood would be an ideal venue.

It may be useful to hold it right before/during/after the SHOT show in Vegas at a location near that show or in a room of the same conference center if you really want to bring people in the business to see it.

Just a thought.

That's been discussed some.

The thought was to have it in June so that it wouldn't conflict so much with other events. Shot Show is just one of many that goes on during that time frame. You have SCI which is really big and then the NRA convention as well.

Tough to find a time that won't conflict with builders trying to stay ahead of the fall rush for hunting season.
