Favorite Wolf Rifle

Whatever is closest...:D. (Sorry, couldn't resist) I like my old short tubed Remmy 788 in 6mm, with a Luepy VXIII for open country, or My Bison Armory 6.8SPC with a VXII 2x7 in the timber.

My deadliest is a plain Jane Remington stainless sps 243 95 SMK at 3200fps shoots inside. .5 moa with a..... Don't laugh, leupold vxr 4-12 with moa cds. Rifle basic trigger. Recently I have been cheating on my faithful ol shootin iron and I am trying to fall in love with my 6.5-06imp on a Rem action, Lilja 27 inch octagon barreled with a 5-20 NF SHV and some matrix 160 bullets, at 2930fps. Lit by a jewel trigger.
Can't forget the 13-24ish Harris bipod.

I used to think 600yds. was a wolf's comfort zone. If you got closer they moved out. It appears now that maybe that comfort zone is closer to 1000 yds. Maybe it is changing because they are being hunted. What are you experiencing?

I drove within 611 yds of one last winter on a snow machine and he was laying down howling. He didn't even get up until the rest of the pack started howling. They were another 600 yds farther away than him. They finally all left. All I could see was the single's head so no shot. He didn't get too excited though. It seems things are changing now.

anything 243 and above within reason meaning you can shoot it Well without being bothered by excessive recoil.

example' shooting your favorite rifle caliber likes its your Prid n joy i can't miss 22 rimfire.

thats what i'm talking about THATS confidence heck thats half the Game in your favor right there.

hunt smart hunt safe, and enjoy your hunt, regards jjmp

Currently my 6.5-284. However, I am working a 243 that is not finished yet. I have a ways to go but testing a few loads it is sure easy to shoot. Interesting to see the 243 responses. I originally started putting this rifle together for my wife. It is the one with the Sightron scope. I am shooting 105 berger hybrids right now with 46 grains h1000. Results are promising.

when Wolves are coming too the call

and trotting in at 25 yards

I like my 7mm Rem Mag

if its a 200 yard head shot its done

and if they want to stop at 500 yards its the last stop they will makegun)

if they turn broad side at 1000 I like those odds

no such thing as over kill when your shooting Wolves

Predator control is just that making sure you put them on the groundlightbulb

Food for Thought
