Favorite Truck Gun- Lets hear about your favorite truck gun.

Kel Tec SU-16C with Holosun holographic red dot instant on sight. It hides in the back pouch of the passenger side seat where I can grab it from my drivers seat and it can be fired from its 27" folded poistion. Accepts AR-15 magazines which for this gun I load with alternating Green tip M-855 and 60gr Nosler varmint bullets. only 5lbs all up is a great, handy gun.

Years ago was a Marlin 336 in 30-30 but didn't want to ruin it.
Then tried the Ruger 10/22, then a 17 HMR.
Neither had enough power and range so put my Ruger 77 all-weather stainless 223 in the truck (pictured in avatar) until I bought the Savage Storm stainless so I wouldn't beat up the Ruger.
I actually bumped up and shot a 205 pound 9 pt. whitetail and jellied the lungs with a 55 grain V-max that's hanging in my wall.
No… I don't hunt deer with it. It was one of those "at the moment" opportunities that I confidently had a great shot on.
I killed a lot of stuff with the ole thurty thurty back on bayou blue.

I'm a reprehensible "townie" and don't even have a truck! 🤣.

Nonetheless of my collection my old husqvarna 98 in 8mm mauser would fit
The bill. Rugged iron sights, stock is already beat up so I ain't afraid to make it worse haha. A workhorse that can take a beating (and dish one out)

We have some fairly restrictive laws in Canada limiting what we can legally tote around up here.

I've tried a number of different options over the years, but keep coming back to a Browning BLR in .308Win topped with a Hensoldt RSA - stainless takedown with an 18"bbl. It's with me spring to fall, while the bears are awake.

After the hunting rifles get put away I carry a Tikka T3 in .223 with a 2-10 Vortex Razor LH for coyotes and 'pest control' for the balance of the winter.

I use a single shot CVA scout in .300 blackout with a primary arms red dot on top. Can use both subs or supersonic ammo.

For truck guns I have two rifles with short barrels and LPVO optics (identical 1-6x24 Trijicon Accupoint TR25's on them)
  • Henry 45-70 lever &
  • 8.6 BLK (8.6 blackout) bolt gun with a 16" barrel
Tell me more about this 8.6 blk. Is that just a straight wall 338 at that point or is it off a different case than the .300 blk.

8.6 = .338 caliber
It's parent case is the 6.5 Creedmoor (shortened), so it's a short action cartridge
1:3 twist barrel (yes, one twist every three inches)
Can load it super sonic with something like the Barnes 210gr TSX (similar performance to a 338 federal)
Can load it sub sonic with something like a .338, 300 grain, Sierra Match King

The tight twist rate is supposed to put a lot of energy into the target by making the bullet expand rapidly.

Truck gun?
🤔
While I have a lot of rifles & carbines that I could pick from for hunting and self defense... I think the one that really comes to the front of my mind in the area I live in is my M1 .30 cal Carbine... it's an accurate, reliable, mint 1945 variant. This carbine has serviced me well for many, many years. Cheers
