FACTORY loads for the 6.5 Creedmoor

Have a new one due next week. Which factory load is best for deer sized game?

I was shooting the Hornady Superformance 129 SST ammo a couple months ago while playing with a new rifle. I was getting some 3/4 to 1 MOA groups with it at 640 yards. I was surprised with it. I had checked and corrected runout with though with the Hornady concentricity gauge. I don't remember the runout being that bad though.

As always probably depends on what your barrel likes, but I think the 129 SST would work well on deer.

Shot this out to 600 yards with results similar to barrelnut. Nothing super impressive but easy 3/4" at 100 and reliable hits on moa plates out to 600.

I forgot ammo and wanted to shoot while on vacation so bought this. No chrono, no measurements, just checked 100 yards with 3 shots then the rest were at steel. 2700 FPS is what I ran for ballistic calcs.

My first try in my ruger predator was hornady precision hunter. It was also my last because it shot so dang well.

I found the Hornady AMAX 140 was hard to beat. I had to work a bit on handloads to get better groups that it would produce...5 shot under .75moa and several 3 shots under .5moa. The Prime 130gr were not far off from the Hornady. All of this was at 100yds.

Shot NRA Whittington PRL 1 course out to 1300 yds with Hornady 140 gr. ELD Match ammo. Exceptional accuracy with -.25 MOA groups at 100yds. I can't beat these with my best handloads in my custom 6.5 Creedmoor! Should work well on whitetail.

I don't know how the Hornady 140gr BTHPs are on game but 6 consecutive five-shot groups have averaged .481" from my Beanland Creedmoor. Were it not for two fliers, they would have averaged .384". Not sure I'm going to be able to tune a handload to do any better than that.

The Hornady Precision Hunter 143gr ELD-X shoot .25" groups in my custom 6.5 Creedmoor, perfect for deer hunting.
