I had the custom 28 Nosler ready for that long range shot and ended up 16ft when I sent the 175grain Nosler LRAB. It went in the base of neck broadside and found under skin. I was by myself hunting and was able to get it back whole thanks to my capstan winch.
I hope to hunt the CWMU again next year. Utah.

Awesome big 5pt, that's a cool bull! I can't believe that bullet held up that well, did Nosler change something with these along the way? Thought guys were getting core separation and blowups w these early on.

Not being a Utah resident anymore, I can't put in for a CWMU. But, I can pay to do it.
Is this one worth giving a try for?

Awesomeness fore sure SB,,, looks like your efforts paid off...

We use a 4 wheel Quad tub up here in the North,,, we slip and 2 strap under the Moose,,, tip the quad trailer at the back of them,,, then flip the Moose and tub onto the wheels... Ha

Using the quad wnich saves alot of time and our backs,,, 1 Quad with tires for the normal terrain,,, the other unit with all season tracks to get up and over the snow drifts to get at the Moose or Elk in the tough areas...

Life is good when we use the retrieving tools...

Cheers from the North

Wow, very nice bull. I'm shocked the bullet held up so well. I'm also shocked it didn't pass all the way through. Goes to show although we can learn a lot from past harvests, each shot and impact is it's own set of rules.

The Right Place, Right Time.
I'm impressed. Love your setup. The trailer and winch make recovery in tight terrain MUCH easier. Thanks for sharing.

Nice elk and appropriate for the Long Range Hunting Forum. LOL What capstan winch do you recommend? I'm only interested in a 12 volt portable system I can move to and use on truck and UTV.
