Discover Credit Card to track gun and ammo sales

While I agree in premise with the concerns, how do they differentiate between gun, ammo, clothing, teeestand, bow, etc. purchases? Unless individual purchases are cashed out separately there's no way for them to track a genuine firearm purchase. There's also no way for them to log serial numbers without the 4473 to create a registry. This is Discover putting on a show to make those ignorant of the facts feel better.

they only tracked it as general merchandise not gun and ammo specific code. this started with the credit cards in the European Union and now they are bringing it here.
if you think this is the same as before good luck on that

Transaction amount is sent to the company. They can code it as whatever they want. A $500 purchase from Joe's Armory will be just that. They don't have an independent breakdown for each item in the transaction.

maybe in the old days not anymore. the same way they track everything you do online and then send you specific adds about what you looked at. they track what you purchase as well as where you purchased it. welcome to the new world

Funny, when the slip prints from my credit card machine at the end of the day is says nothing other than the transaction amounts of each sale.

because that is the info your machine is set up to gather. if your machine was set up differently it would till you everything, how do you think big box stores do inventory? they don't count every item.
