Dents/Crimp on shoulder cause?

I am pretty inexperienced to reloading, have loaded for 300wm and .308 successfully but that is all.

That being said my father in law asked me to work up a load for a 6.5-06 he has. He gave me some once fired Winchester 25-06 brass and a set of RCBS FL 6.5-06 dies. I tumbled the brass and went to size it and got dents around the whole perimeter at the base of the shoulder. Can anyone tell me what might cause this?

Potentially one of two issues. Excessive case lube will cause denting. Also, there is a little vent hole near the top of the die, near what would be the shoulder area of the case......if this little vent is plugged, it can cause denting! memtb

Looks like excessive lube to me. Clean the die well and check the vent hole. Lube sparingly.

I am pretty confident this is not from too much lube. I have seen that before, this is different in how it dented the whole circumference. Also after the first one I lubed the next two cases very lightly. Not sure if the vent hole could cause this much denting.

Any lube on the shoulder is too much lube.

Clean the die and clean the vent hole and you will be good.

Just cleaned the die and made sure vent hole was free. Ran another piece of brass through with no lube at all and it had the same affect.

I did forget to mention the die and the rifle are Ackley Improved. Would that have anything to do with this problem? Like I said I have never loaded for anything but basic stuff.

Can you post a picture of a piece of brass before and after it is sized?

Hopefully this helps. The first 4 are of a piece before and after sizing. The last one is a sized piece next to one that hasn't been.

With this being an AI rifle, should I be expanding the neck to seat bullets and then fire forming before I full length size?

Or am I ok to just FL size right away?

In the picture, the neck looks longer on the sized brass. Are you pushing the shoulder back too far?

What chamber were those once fired 25-06 cases fired in?
