I shot my first cougar and plan to eat the meat. I have heard it is excellent and somewhat like pork. It is certainly light in color. What I wonder is if it can be safely eaten if it is only cooked to medium rare or if it should be cooked more thoroughly. I know that pork and bear should be cooked more due to the risk of trichinosis. What about cougar? Thanks, Rufous.

I have eaten Couger loin and it was delicious.

It was also sliced and cooked to medium well done (Not pink in the middle) in a frying pan. If you don't like it that way, add water in the pan and bake it in the oven at 350 degrees till tender.

I like bear meat too and usually cook it to well done in the oven as I do my elk and deer meat.

A fork will cut through it very easy.

Good luck
Darryl
