Here is the deal. I go out to the range this morning to get my true drop chart done for my 25-06. I already have it done out to 400 and was just going to add 500 yards in. I am shooting the 115 grain Berger VLD hunting bullet. My scope is a Leupold VX III LR 6.5-20. Muzzle velocity is an average of 3075 fps. It was 36 degrees and elevation is 4100 ft. No wind.

Just to test it out, first, I go to 300 yards. I go 7 clicks up and bang, hit the 10" steel plate. I then go back to 400 yards and move 16 clicks up for a total of 23 clicks up. 3 shots all hit the steel plate close to the center. I go back to 500 yards and i just guess and move go up 22 more clicks for a total of 45 clicks up. I hit like 2.5 feet high of the steel plate. I have to move it back down 16 clicks (a total of only 29 clicks up from 100 yard zero) to get it to hit close to the center. After that I put 4 rounds down range and they all hit in a nice 3" group near the center of the steel plate.

So we have from a 100 yard zero:

1. 7 clicks up total at 300 yards

2. Adding 16 clicks up for a total of 23 clicks up at 400 yards

3. and only adding 6 clicks up for a total of 29 clicks up at 500 yards

That just doesnt seem right, from 300 to 400 i have to move it up 16 inches to hit and from 400 to 500 yards I only have to move it up 7.5 inches more. That is freaky weird so I let my shooting partner take a turn to see if it was me and he hit it dead on as well. I just dont understand it. No way it should drop less from 400 to 500 than it does from 300 to 400. Can anyone explain this to me?

JBM shows:

Yards / Drop(in) / Come ups(MOA)

100 / 0 / 0
200 / -2.7 / 1.3 (approx. 7 Clicks)
300 / -10.0 / 3.2 (approx. 13-14 Clicks)
400 / -22.8 / 5.4 (approx. 21-22 Clicks)
500 / -41.7 / 8.0 (approx. 32 Clicks)

It will be much easier if you program yourself to calculate in MOA versus Clicks. Please note these calculations are computer derived and your rifles actual trajectory may vary. Hope this helps. JohnnyK.

JohnnyK,

I sent you a PM.

I guess all of those except for the one at 300 are pretty close. Its showing that what my come up should be at 200 is what I am using at 300. Its just a little strange.
