Compromise and trade offs Elk round 300 prc

Looking at 180 gr Barnes TTSX BT at 3000 FPS+ (Muzzle), vs 208 gr Barnes LRX BT at 2900 + (Muzzle). Browning X-Bolt 300 prc 26 " barrel 1:8 twist. I'm aware of some of the trade offs, but not sure I have identified all of them or how significant they are relative to the others. Many, thanks to all in advance! 208 flatter at that velocity difference by 44" or so at 1000 yds

Either will do with well placed shots but I always go heavier for all reasons except velocity, which once you reach 200-300 yards heavier catches up quickly.

Whichever is more accurate to your intended range. "I" would take accuracy over velocity anytime.

I wouldn't shoot either of them below about 2000 FPS. Very hard monos.

FWIW I did a wet paper test on a 175gr LRX at about 2950 FPS from the muzzle. At 200 yards it was the pretty little flower Barnes advertises.

I agree with Shane the mono's are a different animal. Best terminal performance is with lighter and even faster mono bullets.

I don't know that I would plan to use either one at 600+ yards, I didnt run the numbers but I don't think I would want my impact speed to be much under 2000-1900fps. Great under 500 bullets, and they will stand up to a close range full speed impact but prob not the first choice going long.

Now if you are stuck where you need to go lead free, and both shoot equally as accurate I would prob go 208.
