What about the quality german style COLD HAMMER FORGED ?

its said that this method was invented when the mg 42 came out because it fired so many rounds per minute that it use to eat up barrels. so the german gun makers came up with the idea of COLD HAMMER FORGED.

its a really expencive method aparently. the best machinery you can buy today is manufactured by stayer and it costs colse to a million dollars and can spit out a barrel every 3 minutes.

but some say it has less accuracy than cut and button but it has way longer barrel life.

any coments on this.?

I believe your "manufactured by stayer" should be "Steyr Dailmer Puch GMBH" located in the city of Steyr Austria. I have one and it is the most accurate rifle I have in my collection. As far as quality goes they are TUV certified. This is a European quality standard very similar to ISO in North America. I could be wrong but I belive that Strum Ruger has or did at one time have hammer forged barrels on some of ther products.

The CHF barrel has come a long way toward better accuracy led by the high precision machines made in Europe. The high end German rifle manufacturers are using this process to produce very accurate rifles. Some even do the chamber at the same time. Weatherby and Ruger's barrels are said to be better with new more precise machinery. I have buttoned and cut barrels, along with CHF. The button and cut barrels are easier to clean and shoot well. The CHF barrels shoot well or they are gone. I think stress plays an important part in the performance of a barrel and obviously the cut barrel has the least. Technology may catch the customs one day, but not yet.

Tikka T3s are CHF and they shoot very well. Both of mine broke in quickly and copper fouling is very minimal - no more than my Brux or Lilja. Yes, since Ruger converted to CHF barrels, their accuracy has reportedly improved substantially.
