Chamber neck question

Just my opinion, but I would want .313 as an absolute minimum would prefer .314 or .315. Now that's in an "out in the elements" hunting rig, in a "from the bench only" rig I'd be much less concerned with dirt and moisture in the chamber and could tolerate .312 or .313 with a little more comfort.

I was just told that .316 is as tight as they can go. Is this 2 much?

If that is as tight as they can go....unfortunately thats what you get.

I don't know for certain, but I doubt .003 on a side would be detrimental, just maybe not optimal depending on the intended use.

I'd bet there are factory chambers with more clearance than that out there.

My rules:

Rifles used in sterile/controlled settings:

No less than .0015" per side

Service guns:

No less than .0025 per side

You have to have room for the neck to expand to release the bullet. Failure to do so will result in more accuracy/pressure "fits" than if you just left the dern things alone and ran a SAAMI neck to start with.
