My dad is wanting me to load for his 06 and being a 6.5mm guy I am just wanting some info on where to start. Specifically what is your favorite powder and bullet in the 168gr-180gr range. He mostly uses his Win model 70 for deer hunting but I will be bringing him along on some long range shooting trips. Thanks.

With 165's... work up to 57.5 grains of IMR 4350 in Winchester cases.
With 180's... work up to 56.0 grains of IMR 4350 in Winchester cases.
If neither of those loads shoot well in the rifle, get it checked out for bedding or scope mount/optics issues... because any aught-six worth its salt will shoot very well with either of these loads; I've found none better over the years.

the Imr loads listed are good but i have better luck and accuracy with H4350 compressed under the 168 amax or nosler bt both run an average of 2940fps with single digit extreme spreads. varget, 4064, H380, H414, RE17, and W760 are all also good powders.

Ive used cup and core 150s for years and theyve never let me down. Ive killed well over 50 deer with the 06 loaded like that. For powders try 4350, 4064, 4895, re19, re17. Anyone of those will work and it will come down to whatever one your particular gun likes best. If i had to pick one it would probably be 4064
