I'm going to be trying out SMK 300 Grn bullets going out to 1000 yards and was just curious as to what powder you would start out with if given the choice between Retumbo or H1000 and any other pertinent information thanks in advance!
I have 40 brand new Lapua cases just need primers and powder.

I've had better luck with H1000 than retumbo in my savage 338s with both 300 SMKs and 300 CCs. But every barrel is different. If it were me though I would start with H1000.

Will have to dig back in my books to find. I switched to using a 112 target magnum action with a bartlien 338 lapua AI a year or two ago. Will see if i can dig up the exact details when i get home.

Try H1000 then Retumbo then R33. If that doesn't yield a great load.......rebarrel.

Just bought my son a new 338 same model. Waiting on powder/primers to arrive. Either drive 120 miles for it or pay the HAZ fee. Got h1000, retumbo and R33. Also going to try some gwt brass, they claim better than lapua. Found it for less than 1/2 the price of lapua. So they claim "This New Production .338 LAPUA MAG Brass had testing performed at Barnes and has outperformed Lapua Brand every single time." $1.20 a piece @ sage
