CA Turkey Hunting?

I have a trip planned to California for opening weekend of turkey season. I will be starting out from the Bay area but am planning on doing some driving. I am working on getting a few leads on where to go but would be greatly appreciative of any additional help anyone could provide. My plan is to head north on the first day and hopefully get into some birds without too much travel. If I can get a Rio the first day or two, then I plan to head east into the National Forests of the Sierra foothills to try to get into some Merriam's.
