Burris scopes? BallisticPlex

we got some older ones that i like allright. i've tried three new ones and im not real happy with any of them. maybe the black diamonds are allright but the signature select i got is a hunk of crap. the fullfield 2's are all right i guess.

Burris Fullfield 2 are great for the money. Not the best scopes out there, but hard to beat for around $200. The ballistic plex works fine if you check out your rifle under actual fiels conditions. Anything better is much more cost. My only complaint is their coating causes the scope to appear slightly grey to me eye. Some folks don't see it the same way I do.

Hey Cody

I have fooled around with the Ballistic Plex for a friend's 30-06 and have a Ballistic Mil Dot that is on a 264 win mag. The Ballistic Plex is definitely superior for the 338 as compared to the Ballistic Mil Dot.

The Ballistic Plex subtends the following at 100 yards:

Crosshairs
1st dot -1.5"
2nd dot -4.5"
3rd dot -7.6"
4th dot -11"

Which would match the following trajectory with a 200 yd zero:
200 yds - Crosshairs
300 yds - 4.5" (1st dot)
400 yds - 18" (2nd dot)
500 yds - 38" (3rd dot)
600 yds - 66" (4th dot)

A 225 gr TSX can be loaded to 2835 fps with a BC of .482 (supposedly) which would give the following trajectory with a 200 yd zero

100 yds +1.6"
200 yds 0"
300 yds -6.9"
400 yds -20"
500 yds -40"
600 yds -67.3"

Now that is fairly close except at 100 yds, but you can calculate zero at 220 yds which will bring it a little closer:

100 yds +2"
200 yds +.9"
220 yds 0"
300 yds -5.6"
400 yds -18.3"
500 yds -37.8"
600 yds -64.7"

You see that you can play around with zero range, bullets and velocities to make the reticle fit your needs.

I have fooled around with these type reticles as mentioned above and also with the Swarovski TDS reticle and would give the following advice:

1. If you get a scope with over 10x make sure and get some kind of parallax adjustment cause the Burris Signature 3x12x44 I diddled with did not have a parallax adjustment and it had a lot of it.
2. The reticles are not very useful at powers of 10 or below cause the target at 300, 400 or 500 yards is not magnified enough to make them as useful.

If you were asking what time it is, I hope I did not bore you with telling you how to build a watch. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Here is a link to some Burris scopes

Also would like to say that the quality of the Burris's goes way up with the Black Diamond

I have the 4x16x50x30mm with the Ballistic Mil Dot and it is very clear and bright but extremely long.
