Hey Ya'll,
We live in black tail deer country. Have had huge fires rip through the mountains 2 and 3 years ago. There is always logging.
How long do you wait to start hunting these? Wait till there is undergrowth starting to grow?
Would you hunt the edge of the burn?
Shelter and hiding one side
Food on the other.
Thoughts...

When out scouting, walk the edge of the burns and clearcuts. I'd bet a six pack, you'll find your biggest concentration of deer and elk droppings just inside the canopy at the edge. They're chowing out in the new growth, then chewing cud in the shadows. You'll probably find plenty of droppings in the open too. I'm looking at the age of the droppings too.
During the day, I'll find the black tails in the valleys and creek beds. Elk location depends on the temperatures.

I've shot deer while smoke was still smoldering out of the ground in burns.
loggers like to get there equipment out before you start hunting logged offs. But deer love the moss that falls out of the trees when fallen.
