I've got a new Remington model seven, with a 22" barrel in a 300WSM. Also, I'll be reloading for a Tikka3 270WSM, with a 24 5/8" barrel. The 300wsm has a 1/10" twist, but I'm not sure about the 270wsm. I was wanting to buy for the 300, berger 168gr vld hunting, hornady 168gr V-max, and barnes tsx tipped (not sure about 165gr or 168gr.) For the 270, I've picked berger 140gr vld hunting, hornady 140gr sst, and barnes 130gr tipped tsx.
I'm looking for the best accuracy in these rifles for long range hunting and a little target shooting...do I have the best grain and bullet choices for these rifles/barrels? What's the best powders to get for these set ups? (maybe the best 3 powders to start with.)
Thanks,
Bouieboy

270WSM Imr4831, RE19, H4831 140accubonds for hunting, 150vlds for animals or paper.
300WSM Imr4350, RE17, H4350 168ballistic tips for hunting, 175vlds for either. Neither one will be as accurate as they should if you load them to fit the magazine.

I'm shooting berger 168's. getting great accuracy one hole three shots at 100 yards. Using 66.8 re-19. My conceren is speed, only 2680. Checked 4350 and 4831. 4831 was about the same, the 4350 was at 2850. I'm shooting a Browning a-bolt with 22 in. barrel. I think the lower than published fps is due to the 22 in. barrel. I do realize that fps changes with each gun but didn't expect that much change. These speeds will limit our long range shooting. What do you think?

Thanks, everyone, for all the info. I'm sorry I took so long for my reply, I've been very busy.

After the replies to my post, and other reviews on bullets and powders, I will get started with...berger hunting VLD 185 grain, hornady A-Max 178 grain, using alliant reloader 17 & 19 for the 300WSM. (just curious...I've read that the superformance powder is made for the 300WSM, and comments on it?)

I will try the Berger hunting VLD 150 grain and Sierra BTHP 140 grain, in my buddys 270 WSM, also using the RL.

Any other comments, advise, and suggestions are welcome.

Thanks again!
