Are you saying its coming out of the rifle or the die with the scratches on the bullet?

It is normal for a bullet to be scratched after being ejected from a rifle. The ejector pushes the shell against the chamber walls until it clears and then is flung out the ejection port.

Ok, when I try to chamber a round it rubs the side of the throat and the bolt is hard to close. Some chamber fine others others are a no go. I'm better off buying new set of dies for $30.

Maybe. Maybe its an easy fix once we undeestand more about whats going on?

Color a shell from the shoulder up with a sharpie and chamber it a few times. The sharpie will rub off where its tight in the chamber.

Another thought, the base of the shell may be tight too, so you could color that too if you feel like it. Just clean the chamber out with alchohal when youve finished.

From the picture it almost looks like you are over crimping the case in the cannelure bulging the case neck. try just seating the bullet without crimping and see if the stops the scraping.

If not, there are several other reason that may/could cause this condition.

Let us know.

If that is coming from your rifle and not your dies, it doesn't sound like you know for sure that the bullet is not concentric. I agree with Canadian Bushman.

New dies may not help. Do you have a concentricity gauge? If not, does the bullet or case mouth look out of centered if you slowly roll the loaded ammo on a very flat surface like a mirror or piece of glass?

Are these loading from the magazine or are they just dropped into the chamber?

It's a 1997 Winchester model 70 sporter original barrel in 270 win. I'm using Winchester brass with a 130 Speer bt bullet. And remember brass which you can see the old factory crimp on with a 140 gr. Nosler BT. All are over c.o.a.l. I do not have a centric gauge and they do wobble when rolled. I trim to 2.35 max lenght is 2.40. I'll try the sharpie when I get some time. I load from the magazine. I have cleaned the chamber to make sure nothing was in there to rub against. I'm still new to reloading made about 100 so far. You guys are the only ones I can talk to about reloading. My reloading manuals don't always hhave answers. No cannelures and I don't put a crimp on.
