Browning x bolt 280 Ackley Improved bullet?

Thank guys. I talk to a guy at berger.
The 175 gr are fixing to ship out.
I hope to get 2 boxes of them . And some eld bullets . I have new nosler brass too use. Along with Fed large match primers. Powders on hand RL19 RL22 h4831sc imr 4831 imr 4350 Magpro. I fount some RL23 retumbo and h1000 locally. Does some loads call for mag primers? I have several 1000's fed 215 lrp mag.
I used rel 19 behind a 145 TTSX barnes long range bullet for 3130 FPS in a 24" x-bolt. My 26" x-bolt is close to 3200 FPS. Groups have been about 3/4" for 5 shots. I'm told R-23 will gain maybe 40 ro 50 FPS over these numbers, but I haven't found a source for that powder around here.

I fount a shop locally that has RL23. Its 50.00 plus tax a bottle. He also has berger 150gr classic hunter bullets. Has anyone used them on deer the 150gr? I have used the 140gr vld out of my 280 rem. And the 168gr vld out of my 7mm mag. The vld bullets will do alot of damage. It depends where i am hunting. If it's rocky in the area. I will high shoulder shoot them. I am thinking 162gr eld m x or 166gr A Tip. Or maybe a 168gr classic hunter if i could get them. Guy at berger said to use the 175gr elite hunter in a 280AI. But i never shot anything heavier than a 168gr in a 7mm caliber. I usually shoot lite bullets in my rifles
I load my 300 wby with a 125gr nosler bt. I killed alot of deer with my 280 rem. Loading a hornady 120gr v max. Or nosler 120 gr bt. But my new rifle i was going to go heavier. Picked a bad time to be trying to buy different bullets. This winter when gun bear season opens. In the national forest. They have went through cut all the big oak tress's. Left the little pines standing in rolls. And burnt the big oaks up. And some places u can see 1000 yards. During turkey season. I watched the bears come out feeding on stuff. I watched one blonde colored bear several times .

Do ya just neck size your brass after the first firing? Just wondering i haven't picked a neck sizing die up yet. I bought a 280AI full length and bullet seater. Looking at the Redding 280AI micrometer seating die. And a Redding neck sizing die.

What is the goto powder for bullets 160gr to 175 gr?

That I have found for the 175 based on my researching (i have not tried them all), RL26 is supposed to be the the fastest, next level i would say is h-1000, retumbo, Rl23, n565, next tier I would say is n570, 7828ssc, and 4831.

I can't speak to the 280AI, but my 280 Rem shoots great with 140 Accubond. Tough to find those things though .

In 280 Rem, I have shot 140, 150, 168, and 175 bullets. I stay on the lighter side for speed and flatter.

Don't overlook slower magnum type powders. The velocity is a touch slower, but 280 seems to do well with them

I just neck size after the first firing and then I chamber the cases to make sure they chamber easily before loading them up. Redding makes good dies - you'll be happy with them. After years of just using whatever brass i've been able to find at the cheapest price, I've finally started using some of the premium ones. Not only do they last longer, but now the velocities others have gotten are obtainable.

I am assuming you are asking about the load with the magnum primers? If so I'm using 49 grains of W760 with federal 215 primers and 120 grain Nosler BT. All other 7-08 loads I have used federal 210 primers.
Thanks. Just curious as the 7-08 is my second favourite. I just started testing Varget. Have 120 BT's and 120 HH. Thanks

I have shot and killed deer with 120gr 130gr 139 gr 140gr and 150gr out of my 280 rem. This yring was shot with my 280 rem. I loaded a berger 140gr vld hunting bullet. That hole is the exit hole. I think it was 80 yds. Thats why i was looking to try a different bullet.
