Just picked up a tikka T3 superlite for my backpacking rig, and I need some reloading advice.

I've never loaded for a 300 win before and therefore need to gather all the components before the gun gets back from the smith in a couple weeks.

I'm searching for advice on a couple things,

The first is what dies should I be looking for. I don't mind spending money on better dies to an extent, but don't want to be buying a set now then a set in a few months because something is better.

I already picked up a couple pounds of RL 22 and have a few pounds of H-1000 and retumbo from my .338 lapua

the gun has a 1 in 11" twist, what bullets should I be looking at? this gun will primarily be used to hunt Coues whitetail at ranges that could exceed 700 yards, but will also be used for backpack elk hunts and I would prefer to have 1 bullet for everything. Any recommendations on what to try first would be helpful....

11 and 12" twist barrels will usually only go to 200 grains accurately. A 10" twist will handle to 220-230 rather well. I'd look at 165 grain as the lightest bullet used in the rifle and try to find a good load with a 190 or 200. H1000 and 190-220 grain pills will make a 300win sing. 165's and 180's seem to love rl22. Pick a good pill and have fun; the winny isn't usually that picky...

Even a 300 like mine that hates heavy pills is still 1/2moa at 200 with 165 hdy's and 78 rl22 in ww brass lit by a 215.

Thanks for the response, I'm thinking the 208 A Max will be one worth trying certainly...

On another note, where can I find brass? Norma and Hornady seem easy enough to find and I suppose I'll go with Norma if I must but I was hoping to score some WW.

My SAKO M995 has a 1:11" twist and I have pretty good success (but could use further refinement) with ...

73 IMR 7828SSC
CCI250
WW Brass

X=2793 FPS
SD=9
~1.00 "@ 200 yards (will post pix as soon I find them :cool:)

NOTE: Proceed with caution as you get towards max load.

Congrats on your new toy and good luck. Happy safe shooting/hunting.

Thank you much, I've got some of that powder tucked away so I will certainly see how it works in my rifle!

Used same gun for Yukon hunt, tried some of the usual suspects for powders but settled on H-1000/Accubond 180/Win brass for ragged hole groups at just over 3100fps at 100M. Lots of powders gave good accuracy but only H-1000 gave me speed and accuracy. Of course you gun might vary but I would try H-1000 first.

I ordered some Norma brass (couldn't find WW in stock) and some 208 accubonds and 210 vlds... Have a few thousand 215 primers already
