I would like to know more about your gun. (Barrel twist, length of barrel, velocity, grain bullet, and accuracy)
Thank you,
Taz

Barrel is 30 inch Spencer, 1.875" tapered to 1.5". Twist is 1-10 (next time 1-11) Action is 10 inch BAT. Bullet is JLK 190 grain. (JLKs have best consistency in weight and base to ogive that I have run across recently.) Powder is 4350 and velocity is 3050 with zero pressure signs and I know that there is room to go up, but no need to.

Groups now are running 6-9" for 10 shots at 1000, need do some more work on seating depth and tweaking. Think gun and combination is capable of much better. I am the limiting factor right now.

Bounty Hunter, did Mr. Spencer build your rifle? Have you tried the 210 JLK's? I have a 8.5 by 1.750 bat action and stock with Mr. Spencer right now for the 300 wsm. I am suppose to receive it in early spring 2003.

Do you think the 11 twist for the 190 & 210 JLK's would be more accurate?

Do you think you can get 2900 out of a 30 inch barrell with the 210 JLK's?

I hope I'm not asking too many questions. I'm just curous. Thanks. Taz

Gun was built by John Myer, Custom Gunsmithing in Boyce Va. He is one of the best in building 1000 yard guns and has built many top guns. He competes and knows what it takes to make a great gun. He is now making me a 6mm BR improved (shoulder moved forward .200). 28" Spencer HV taper barrel with 1-8 twist, 721 action, Bruce Baer laminated stock and jewell 2 oz trigger.

Clay Spencer builds top guns also and I think some of the absolute best barrels. Everyone says they are all "shooters", and clean up easier than anything else. The Army SOF just dropped a bundle with him to expand his barrel making business to build sniper barrels and SR25 barrels for Delta. They tested every barrel made in the world and his checked out best. They have combat SR25s shooting .5 with his barrels.

Have not tried the 210 JLKs. No reason, but after talking with Danny Brooks, IBS 1000 yd 1999-2000 champ, about his wifes gun, thought 190s would be logical. Lee Brooks has 300 WSM and she shoots Berger 210s at around 2950 fps with 30 " barrel.

Concensus on 300 WSM in 1000 yard shooters is that the 190-210s work best and most are going now to 1-11 twist instead of 1-10.

Taz.I shoot the 210's in a 30" Hart 11 twist barrel.2900 is very possable. My 1000 yard match loads are at 2803fps.And are pretty light...Thought about the 190's.But the 210's shoot better than I do....

Boyd is right, I would go with 210s first, but I built one of the first 300 WSM 1k guns and it was tossup on twist and bullets. Started with 190s and got too good a deal on the barrel (1-10) to pass up.

I have a bunch of 210 JLKs that I am going to use to work up loads after the PA shoot this week to get ready for nationals. I won VA State Match HG group last month with 5.9" and 8.1" with the 190s so it will shoot.
