Bought a Seekins Havak ph2 in 28 Nosler. Would like to load longer than SAAMI.

I bought the 28 when my 7 STW disintegrated (long story). I bought it specifically for the shorter case so I could load the heavier bullets longer which I couldn't do with the STW. SAAMI is 3.34" and I would like to load 3.55-3.60" which I can do easily with the long mag box on the Seekins. The lands are at 3.54" with 175 ELD-X's. Would I be smart to take it to a gunsmith and have it throated for the longer loads or would you wait for some throat erosion before doing it.

28's move the throat fairly quickly, I would likely wait it out but it's not a big deal for a smith to run a throater in it either.

If it needs 3.55-3.6 then go ahead and make a dummy round touching and measure it, if it's not to your liking, have the throat altered. Easy Peasy…

A 28 Nosler will extend the throat plenty fast on its own. I'd leave it alone.

I didn't get along with this cartridge and sold the gun after exhaustive efforts to get it consistently accurate. I like the Seekins' rifles though.
