Bore snake vs. cleaning rod?

Does anyone have any advice or preference on bore snakes vs. traditional cleaning rods in rifles?

A coated or carbon fiber rod. Don't kill your barrel with a steel or sectional metal rod and if you want to be a step ahead of the crowd, get a good quality bore guide. The snake has a place in the box for emergencies when a rod isn't available. My son's friend thought I was kidding when I told him his sectional rod was tearing up his lands. A year later his groups went south so I showed him what damage that rod did using my borescope.

I agree with Dosh with everything except I think a quality bore-guide is absolutely necessary. Snakes should be left for emergency.
